I loved my Swiffer, but it just can't cope with the nobbly ceramic tiles and grout lines in my kitchen. Do I have to go back to hand and knees scrubbing? What would you do? |

What Algie said... But when I do it myself, I swiffer wet and dry... -or- replace the floor . Sounds like a general pain..... |

Hire a maid? Isn't that the way proper Brits handle this sort of thing? |

Greentree - Hubby's response to the fact that the refrigerator door is getting mildewy/moldy/gross .... let's just buy a new one. That's our solution to most household messes/problems. |

Algie - is that a problem??? I must make sure that you & The Spouse never meet; you might gang up on me & Hubby. It's kind of scary to me that he & I would agree on this, seeing as how I have never agreed with anything he's posted... |

Oh, no -- I am just as lazy as Hubby ... I think it's better to find a spouse who's your opposite, they'll keep you in line. Hubby and I are bad influences on each other. I'm agreeable to buying my way out of any sort of chore/work. |

Alg- It's not "lazy"; it's efficient time management. You should always do what you are best at... some people are good cleaners, others are better at applying American Express therapy & writing checks! The multitude of skill sets is what make the world go 'round... |

I've been giving serious thought to purchasing a Swiffler. How do they compare with sponge mops, brooms, and the like? |

Ok so my options are: 1) a cleaner 2) a grubby floor 3) a new floor, but a swiffer friendly one (Joan they are very handy for small flat areas) 4) Hubby suggested a new kitchen but not sure I can justify that! (Algebra- my husband obviously went to the same DIY school as yours!) 5) Hold out for some magic formula you shake over it and it cleans itself.......

Joan, I would consider myself an excellent house cleaner. I truly love doing it. I would only use a Swiffer (which I do) for hardwood floors. Period. I've tried it on linoleum but it doesn't get everything. I still like a good ole broom. |

If you get a swiffer wetjet, get the re-usable pads that are sold on eBay and nowhere else. Also get the bottle refiller kit from a different eBay seller. I have the pads, but not the bottle filler (yet), and they work great. Swiffer supplies are highway robbery, pure & simple, plus they are about the least environmentally sound approach to cleaning. The "cleaning solution" is primarily just water & fragrance and they charge a fortune for it. But I do love the concept. It works great on the ceramic tile in my kitchen. |

Mergele, me too! I really wish she would use a regular mop. But then, I don't use anything so a swiffer is better than nothing. |

Go back to hands & knees scrubbing until you replace the floor. I do hands & knees scrubbing about once a month and in between I Swiffer. |

CFA is right. Swiffing is best for wood floors. But, the Swiffer Wet is what I use in the basement, around the litter box, since it's convenient. Mergele - it's good to know that I'm not the only one trained by her cleaner! |

The floor mate with scrubbing brushes is what is best to use for ceramic tiles and the grout in between |

Thanks for all the info! You've convinced to stick with the Publishers' Clearing House Special that I am using now. The head looks like a wedge of the foam material used to stuff some cushions. It works great. The head can be used on any kind of surface and picks up every bit of dirt and dust it encounters. To release the dirt, just rinse the head in the sink. |

Oh the Floor Mate is an amazing machine. Get that for a biweekly or monthly deep clean and then swiffer in between. Round it out with a Roomba and your free time to post on MOL will absolutely skyrocket.
