.500 is a good goal and a level I would consider "successful" for 2004.

Probably means 4th place; but that doesn't matter.

I think the N.L. East will be a tightly contested race with 10 games separating the best from the 4th place team. Montreal is doomed to come in last this year. I'd grudgingly give Philly the top spot followed by Atlanta and the Mets (don't laugh). Florida with pitching should do well but with no Pudge or Derrek Lee, they'll suck at the plate. Of course, they have Benitez and I'll look forward to watching him blow saves in September.

Mets middle relief and closers are mediocre at best. If aged starting pitching falters early, Mets will be a 70 win team.

Am I the only one who thinks the Mets should not trade pitching prospects for Soriano?

I would trade the pitching prospects for Soriano. Kazmir is still two years away from coming up, and pitchers with their arm problems are hard to predict how good they will be. Pulsipher, Ishringhausen, and Wilson, are good examples of this.
