This may be a laugher to many of you, but i am having trouble figuring out how to 'properly' install what i would call a screw ancor into the plaster wall. This is the little plastic piece that gets put into the wall so that the screw has something to 'grab' onto. Can anyone tell this idiot what to do? Thanks. |

Drill a hole a lil' bit smaller than the plastic anchor screw (molly), and then push the plastic molly in, and if you have to, pound gently with a hammer until it is flush with the surface. Put your screw into the center, and when you turn it, it'll open the plastic anchor and it'll grab the back side of the wall. There are different strength ones made.(and some are metal too) It depends on what you want to hang up. |

If you're really doing this into a plaster wall, you probably don't want to be using this type of anchor at all. I never had luck with them on plaster - they're really made for drywall. Hope it's not too late...

You can go to home depot. There you will find the parts, may be not the help. You need an item that will to thru the hole you drill then flip a toggle out to hold against the plaster lath. They come in sizes for the weight of the hang. Example, and 40 pound mirror needs two 20 pound toggles. Do not use the plastic expand things, they will only crack out the plaster and will not hold the weight. Next thing. Make your first drill with a small drill. If you hit a stud, you need to use a normal screw, and if you drilled for a toggle, you just made your hole too big. Hope this helps! Later, George Berkeley Never be afraid to try something new.
