So my very scientifically curious 5 year old got a magnet at the museum of natrual history gift shop and decided to go around the house testing to see what things are metal. One of the things he tested was the little tv in our bedroom which now has a large greenish area on the screen. Its been a few days and its faded a bit. Is it going to go away? Is it fixable (and worth fixing on an tiny tv that did not cost much in the first place)? Thanks

Yes. My mom used to buy us those huge magnets too -- I learned from her mistakes. Keep that magnet away from your computer! I don't know if it's fixable.

A TV repair man can fix it by degaussing the screen, not very expensive; you just have to bring the TV in. He basically has to demagnetize the part of the screen that your son magnetized.

Keep that kid away from the Computer!

It is fixable. Degaussing is the process.

However, most TV's have a system built in these days and every time you turn it on and off it goes thru the cycle.

Over a few weeks it will likely just fade away. If not, then take it in for the super degaussing.
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the Titanic.

You might try unplugging the television, waiting a few minutes, and then plugging it back in. Most newer televisions will reset the built-in degausser by doing this.

It has seemed to be slowly fading. I'll try unplugging it. Thanks.
