.. is Ronnie from Maplewood - South Orange Sewer & Drain Cleaning, who is an advertiser here to boot. I posted a rec for him a few months back but wanted to do so again since he just came over to my house 20 minutes after I called him and cleared a toilet for me for a very reasonable price. I've been gouged by so many plumbers doing inadequate work so I can't tell you how happy I am to have found Ronnie. He does all plumbing work, too, not just sewer and drain cleaning. He's also a nice guy and lives in town. i run into him all the time, which gives me added security knowing that he's not going to screw me over. |

I cast my vote for Gateway. They are Honest, Reliable, on Time and best of all charge a very fair price. They are my plumbers for life. Ask for Dave |

Dave and his company have been doing work at our house as well. He has accomodated our on again/off again schedule as well as our idiosynchratic requests to move things 1 inch to the left or to the right. Just yesterday they had and extremely MESSY job to deal with and left the house as neat as could possibly be! Plus I was overjoyed to take a shower in a tub that drained this morning...it's the little things

Another Kudo for Gateway, they have done many things for us both big and small, and as pesty as I can get, they never act like I'm a bother!!! I'm not sure if they snake drains or not |

I had Gateway qoute a project, (relocate 2 radiators on the 1st Floor, easy access from basement) and it came to about $1K, and it was qouted as 5 separate projects ($200 ea ave). I thought it was too high so I didn't go with him. I usual do simple plumbing my self, but had never done steam pipes before. My brother-in-law (part time carpenter) thought it too high also, so he came over and we did the whole thing in 4 hrs (including one trip to Home Depot, and catching a game on TV). Is $250/hr the normal going rate in this area? |

Fotboat, Seems to me like that was 8 man-hours (2 men * 4 hours), so more like $125/hr. Sounds like there might have been some supplies involved, too, since you had to go to Home Depot. Doesn't sound outrageous to me. It's great that you had the expertise to be able to do this yourself and were able to save some money, but I suspect that the quote from Gateway is in line with what you'd get from any other reliable plumber (and almost certainly better than what you'd get from Weltman). |

The owner of Gateway is a good personal friend of mine, and I can vouch for his integrity and skills. He knows he's not the cheapest, but you do get what you pay for. He brings an exemplary level of professionalism and a very high level of service to his business, and takes a great deal of pride in doing so. I wouldn't take chances on plumbers. As in so many things you do indeed get what you pay for. |

Hey Fotboat, Early last year I called Weltman Plumbing in to repair a 1 1/2 inch return pipe on my hot water boiler the quoted me $869.00 for a 1 hour job and parts came in at $15.00 or less, when I objected to the price the rep. said he could knock of $100.00 bucks if I signed up for a service contract. I had Weltman patched it for $219.00. My contractor friend came over a few days later and did the work in 45 minutes and his fee was a cup of coffee and a slice of pie. That’s what friends are for.

I vote for Gateway also. When I thought a $400 plumbing job was too high, Dave explained the details to my satisfaction. Ed May |

Speaking of plumbers... Here is a question of ethics that I have been wondering about for several years. A few years ago, I had problems with a leaky shower. The plumber that I used is well-known in the Millburn area, and although he is expensive, I had used him numerous times over the years with good results. Anyway, the plumber sent one of his men over to look at the shower. I had already taken the faceplate and other hardware off of the shower so the guy could look inside. The guy spent about 10 minutes at my house, told me that the volume control needed replacing, and that it he would have to order a new one (which would take a few weeks). He then told me that it was $100 for the service call, and that it would cost me another $100 for him to come back and install the part. I told the guy that he was nuts, because he did not fix anything. I do not pay for two-step jobs.... I expect him to have the part on his truck or go to a plumbing supply house to get the part right then and there. So, he never returned, and I refused his bill for the house call. What would you have done? Marc www.millburnweb.com

I'm still shocked that Gateway, just before Thanksgiving, charged us $350.00 for 30 minutes or less of work, albeit on two toilets. For $200.00 they completely scraped up the inside of one toilet, which looks so incredibly terrible that we have decided to replace it. We called Gateway and spoke to whoever answered the phone, who essentially said that a job costs what it costs even if the workers do damage to the home. |

Had nothing but good results from Corragio Brothers. Joe has been to the house most often, his brother once, too. Used them for "upgrades" and an emergency once -- very responsive. My Dad, a retired electronics engineer, remarked that Joe works with real precision -- I agree. Pete

I just wanted to put our vote in for Ronnie. Unlike other plumbers we have used (or tried to use), Ronnie responds to phone calls and keeps his appointments. If he's running late, he calls to alert you so that you're not left peering out the window like a child on Christmas Eve. Like Alan, the fact that he's from Maplewood only adds to his high rating. The work he did in our house was well done and cost us significantly less than a larger shop was going to charge us. Ronnie, Ronnie he's our man..... |

amh Like I said we also got a game and a trip to HD during that 4 hrs, so I would have expected a master plumber to have done it in 2+ hrs, and had the pipe on his truck. And if the master plumber had an extra person with him, he probably would have been a training/assistant that would not be getting $125/Hr, but 25+/hr. So $1,000 for 5 man hrs, + $50 in parts, and lets say the assistant gets $50/hr, that means the master plumber gets over $300/hr. That I consider unreasonable, since I paid for similar work in a Ca house I own for $200 (and there you had to work in a 2ft high craw space instead of nice 7ft high dry basement with all the plumbing exposed. Swato, yes it nice to have friends that have a little experience (had done it twice before) that equaled $1,000 of work of a master plumber.

I vote for Gateway. Easy to work with, nice, professional, clean and stuck to the qutoe. They replaced our boiler on one of the coldest days. His guys had the new one up and running by 3PM! You get what you pay for and Gateway is worth every penny! |

I had heard here (on line ) good things about Gateway. I am going to have to have plumbing work done soon ; but when I heard about how much they charged for thawing pipes I would be afraid to call them . I will go with a smaller plumbing business that doesn't gouge or have to charge higher prices to cover their overhead . |
