My girlfriend and I are planning to move to South Orange in June, and have begun the process of looking for an apartment. We've noticed that most of the ones available online are through a service like rent.net or something similar. We'd love to avoid paying a fee, so I wanted to ask for advice on how to find an apartment in town without going through a realtor or using one of the online services. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! |

Go to a building you like and ring the building's super, who should be able to tell you if anything's available. It's easy to do this in a small town like SO. |

there are at least 2 one-bedroom apartments available where I live (walking dist. to train station). Call Stone Mountain Property, 973-376-2626. They also own larger apts. in other buildings in town.

You also may want to post exactly what type of apartment you are looking for in the Free Classified section here. |

If you drive (or walk) around the downtown area you're very likely to see signs listing "apartment for rent." I doubt that there'll be a fee. At the moment, I believe that there are more available apartments than renters. There are also frequently rentals in Maplewood Village. Check that area, too. Good luck! |
