http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/weirdso/ Infomation on the graveyard. Mr DeVaris: The least we could do is place a sign at the entrance of the little park identifying it as a memorial park, or something. We owe some respect to those who made South Orange the place we all enjoy today Thought you'd like the fact that it is unbuilt and still open space. And there is a monument , as you can see at the website..check it out! |

Was the cemetary larger than the park is now? There are an awful lot of names on that list to be buried in such a small area. |

I recall the cemetary from my childhood days in SO. It was pretty crowded with tombstones. I believe the current park is the same size as the cemetary. The neighboring buildings, RR tracks and Valley St. formed the borders. These have not changed. |

I must say - as a resident of Valley street for awhile, my husband and I use that park all the time because it's the only open space for miles that we can easily walk to. We always walked our dogs there (yes, 2 years after we started taking the dog there 4 times a day and meeting other neighborhood dogs there for playtime, we were informed it was illegal to walk dogs in so. orange parks! we had no idea and there were no signs anywhere!) I spent countless hours picking up the beer bottles (and other more revolting things) dumped there by the drunk who visited the park every day, the pyromaniac who was continually burning books and the various other people who were up to no good in an effort to keep that park clean so everyone could enjoy it. In the last few years it seems like more and more people have been using that park, which is wonderful. That park would be GREAT as a dog park - especially since you wouldn't be impacting any residents since it's all industrial/warehouse/office uses surrounding the park. Of course, the town would have to overcome its aversion to dogs and change the rules to actually allow them there. (I really don't understand the dog ban thing... I can see in playgrounds, but in open space in parks?? don't get me started...) I don't know if it would be such a great idea to make access to the waterlands from that park, though - is the intent so people could park their cars over on Valley and walk through to the waterlands? If so, I don't know where they'd park! Traffic and parking is bad enough on Valley as it is. |

A dog park? That site? ...to take our dogs there and take a pee? ...and I was talking of respect! (P.S. I love dogs)

hee hee I'd forgotten it was a former cemetary when I said that - no disrespect intended .. but the way back of that park would be a good spot for a dog park |

ohhhhhhh...Private messaging, Name Calling, Crys for moderator intervention... I feel like Im back in H.S. Katie wanna go to the Prom with me and show that Guessagain up after the big game? Honestly, this is a semi-public message board, if you can't take a dig every now and again after you throw one out there...suck it up and cry to someone who really cares. No one with the exception of a few individuals post with actual names or have an actual identity other then what is posted. I find it difficult to give anyone a sense of validity to their statements when they hide behind a false name and strong sentiments...That is a class 1 identifying trait of a coward with low self-esteem. And for those of you who have put their actual identitiy out there on this site, I would suggest contacting the police, if you receive harrassing phone calls because of any nonsense that is posted on this website. GET OVER YOURSELVES, THIS IS ONLY A WEBSITE.

getting back to the issue about the dog park.now that i know what a dog park is..i think it's a great idea !..what about the park in irvington ave?? it already has a fence to keep the dogs in...and it doesn't seem like it's used...do people pay to go to a dog park or is it open to eveyone? |

??[?? .open to everyone, and if opened in this location would attract people from all over.. I think. It would certainly increase pedestrian traffic in the area and become a community gathering spot. The best thing about this location is that it is so underutilized now, (no complaints about valuable public space going to the dogs, and bordered by non-residential properties. |

Not even flowers.... It's a large piece of proporty and so underutilized but... I think there may be more information that the town might have on allowed uses... |
