As a relatively new member to this the SO/M community. I am very dipleased with the operation of this adminstration. We need fresh blood. I guess I will voting for anyone with new ideas.

Enrollment is not flat everywhere. It's up at Columbia and there are not enough teachers. Also many programs are not being properly funded or administered, i.e. the E.D. students brought back from out of district, the Freshman Cluster, the Intervention and Referral Committee and the Discipline Committee, to name a few. These programs were set up to fail. Or they were set up to look good but accomplish little.

Shestheone : go to the BOE main office on Academy Street. Either put in a request for the information in writing or maybe you will get lucky and they will allow you to view it there.
See for yourself. I think for someone like yourself that would be the only way you would believe it.

For another look at Enrollment growth see various links under Demographics at http://hometown.aol.com/njfabian

The District has projected total enrollment to increase by 20+ in 2004-05 school year.

How many seats are those six candidates vying for? And how come nobody represents the second half of the alphabet?

There are three positions open, and it seems from Guillermo's information that no incumbents are running. That's an interesting group of candidates, and it should be an interesting election.

Looks like all remaining BOE members are from the 1st half of the alphabet too except OLeary - he may have to change it to just Leary.

Is this what comes from sitting in the front half of the class? (Oh, I guess they don't do that anymore ... or do they?)

This is a good group of candidates, and it will be a great election, I predict, bringing real change to the Board.

I will hereby endorse Bob Little, Lynn Crawford, and Rowland Bennett. All three are highly accomplished, knowledgeable about our district and its needs and issues, and certain to demand a new level of accountability from this administration, which is exactly what is needed at this time. We need everyone who is sick of the status quo to get out this round to vote for these candidates. We can take back our district if we win this election.

As for the others, Burch is Latz's candidate and a total ally of the current administration. I assume this to be true of Gifford too, since his poster says that he is proposing to do away with levelling entirely (and I suppose he means in both the middle school and the high school). I do not know Mark Miller.

Can we expect the candidates to provide their opinions/approaches/platforms somewhere such as MOL or their own web sites?

Mr. Gifford is 18, and has recent, personal experience with the school system. I wouldn't automatically assume that he is "Latz's candidate".

A dilemma for Gifford:

(1) Either he is going to college, in which case he either (a) will not be anywhere near here during the next term, or (b) will be rather too busy to serve, or

(2) He is not going to college, in which case, why would we want to elect him?

I think, to be honest, that at least a batchelor's degree should be a requirement to serve on our school board.
