Congratulations. Jason and I wish you all the best. I think San Francisco is the best avenue yet (til May when we could go to Massachusetts). The New York marriages (in Nyack and New Paltz) are being performed without marriage licenses. Very soon we will all have the protections, rights and responsibilities of marriage John |

Congratulations. You cannot invite all of us to San Francisco, but I do hope you will consider having a big wedding reception right here in Maplewood when you get back, perhaps at the Maplewood Country Club or the Little Club. May you be blessed with love, good health and fortune. |

Congrats and thensome and a bucket of rice at ya! All love makes history, but your marriage at this time is a special landmark. We need to get same-sex marriages on the agenda here. Portland, Oregon, is the latest to consider issuing same-sex marriage licenses. |

To the 2 Brides to be... Congrats! We're very happy for you both! It's a shame that Maplewood isn't providing the service you are going to be getting from San Francisco. Think about the revenue SF is getting from Gay Marriages. NYC and NJ are missing the Gay Wedding boat!

Thank you so much for all the good wishes, everyone. I know the post about registering was a joke, but if you feel strongly about this issue & want to make a difference, please consider making a contribution to the Human Right's Campaign Marriage Project. Follow the link & you can specify that your gift goes towards the marriage campaign. https://www.hrc.org/Template.cfm?Section=Donate CFA - funny you should ask! You must have at least one & no more than two. My brother & his girlfriend are probably going to join us as witnesses. But thanks for the offer. |

Congratulations! I'm not gay, and I was discussing with with friends just last night how absurd and backward this president is to be opposing this. I would have though that this country had grown from the whole civil rights movement where African Americans were being discriminated against even while under he protection of our constitution, but no. This is exactly the same kind of thing, and it really makes me sick to know that we are still as backward as ever. We gotta get this nut out of the Whitehouse. He has already screwed us up with war, the economy, education, and now this. What a loser. I dare anyone to come up with one good reason why this shouldn't be allowed. I think it's great, and hope that many others are inspired as well! Good luck! (hey, this president is an inspiration after all!) |

Fabulous news! Have a wonderful trip, and I also would love to see some pics if you can post 'em. Here's to hoping that same-sex marriages are treated no differently than male-female marriages by government or society some day soon. |

Llama, How in the world is the plight of African Americans and the plight of gays in this nation at all the same? People really sound ignorant when they say such stupid things. |

One of the interesting side shows in the culture wars is going on in Georgia where the legislature is trying to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage. The main opposistion is coming from black legislators, most of whom are ministers in conservative faiths who are against gay marriage, but are uncomfortable with an amendment that makes discrimination part of the constitution. |

Congrats Greentree! All the best to you and the spouse! I have a question. Does one member of a gay marriage change their name? Is that an option? Do some couples hyphenate their names or otherwise blend them like heterosexual couples do? I guess that was more than one question huh?- It's not an issue, I'm just curious. |

Thanks Art, but no one is invited on the honeymoon. We're doing the weekend in Napa. Greeneyes- I've known people who hyphenate, but most keep their own names. But, that's everyone I know who has had a comittment ceremony that wasn't legally sanctioned. I suppose once we have our legal rights, it will come up more. We'll keep our own names; professionally, I've been know by Greenetree for 18 years. Again, I can't say thank you enough for all the good wishes. I may even tell The Spouse about this thread- she normally hates when I tell stories about us. But, since she doesn't read this, she usually doesn't know unless I tell her! |
