Can someone please explain to me why going to the South Orange Post Office has to be such a miserable experience? I was there today at 2pm and there were 15 people on line, and another 5 filling things out and about to get on line. (Don't people work? But thats besides the point.) Only two out of the three windows were open, God forbid you ever see any workers rushing in there, they are SO SLOW! Does anyone know if renovations are being planned for the post office? It needs a fresh new look inside along with MORE WINDOWS for workers so people can be in and out quickly. |

I don't know why I'm posting because it seems so futile, but I too really dislike the SO Post Office experience. But on the up side, there are always nice people to talk to in line! |

Once again, Maplewood tops S. Orange... their post office is bright & cheery and so are their very efficient employees. What do you think makes the difference? |

I am familiar with the SO post office since the 1970s. Little has changed. I don't know anyone who thinks the staff is friendly. Some of the faces have been behind those windows for 20 years. I stopped using the office with any regularity quite some time ago. Thumbs up for Maplewood. The problem is that this brings people to Maplewood where they will shop instead of SO. Even though this is a federal facility it reflects negatively on our town. |

There is one lady behind the counter at the S. Orange post office who is always friendly and cheerful. At least she is there when I go on Saturdays.

From standing in line and talking to people, most of them say that they actually come to the SO Post Offices from others they prefer not to use, such as Irvington and East Orange. So perhaps on a continuum, SO is a better P.O. |

I agree with Arizona...I go to the Maplewood Post Office & while I am there, I tend to shop for any necessities in Maplewood. I can't comment on the friendliness of the S.O Post Office because the LINES at the South Orange Post Office are so outrageous, I never stick around.

Oddly, I go to SO PO because I've found the lines are shorter than Maplewood's. And because I can walk there and drop FedEx's off. |

Dave, Just curious...do you ever go on a Saturday morning around 10 or 11 am? (which inevitably is when I find time to make it to the post office) |

I can attest the lines at the SO Post Office are horrific and slow...but to SO being better then Orange...my car was stolen in the 5 minutes I was inside the Post Office on Main Street in Orange about 4 years ago. |

Funny, but I almost always find the South Orange post office quicker than Maplewood, and I've never had a problem with rudeness from clerks in either of the post offices. It must be the time of day that I stop in the South Orange post office - mid morning or mid afternoon, lines are generally short to non-existent, and parking is alot easier than in Maplewood. When I'm in a hurry, the Post Office on Springfield Ave. is the easiest of all - as long as I can find a place to park nearby. |

i agree with the majority of you, the SO post office does have long lines most of the time, the staff also does not seem to move to quick either. i have however never had them be rude to me in anyway. if anything they are too nice with some people and spend a bit too much time with some customers as the line builds. |

To some posters, everything associated with South Orange must be bad, whether or not the village trustees have anything to so with it. It's really comical< I can't figure out why they stay. They certainly could get enough for their homes, taxes and/or rents are lower elsewhere, there is no quarry development, pwrking is easier anywhere else, people are nicer everywhere else. So far, only cars are stolen anywhere else. Folks, the post office is the post office. People in downtown Maplewood complain about the parking there ALL THE TIME. Can't believe JM from SO feels parking is easier there. From reading recent posts, have have been unable to find ONE SUBSTANTIAL reason to stay. FOlks, the grass is greener elsewhere..why don't you go? Me I love it here. Sure there are problems, but the post office is fine, I love the parks, new buildings will bring in great new villagers, etc etc etc. Otherwise I wouldn't stay.

Guessagain: I agree, however, I think the reason is because we all like the town. If SO wasn't so desirable residents would be leaving the area. There is a lot of room for improvement. The parks are great so are many of the people. We still have to change things to make this town even better. You have to admit that many of the posts are about things that do need improving. I agree about the negativity though. Perhaps there should be a thread to list all of the positives. |

I stay because my job pays good and its in Newark...I don't want to commute. I think you could pay a lot less in taxes, deal with a lot less issues if you move out to the boonies...but who wants to sit on rte 78 or 80 or the GSP every morning for hours. |

i wanted to clarify what i said about parking between the south orange and maplewood post ofices. the major difference is south orange has no parking lot. the closest one is up the hill at the library or directly across the street from the library. maplewood has a parking lot right next to the post office. |
