I'm hoping to create a little DVD movie that uses clips from home movies. I'm planning to have my VHS tapes of the movies transferred onto DVD professionally first, then use them as the raw material to edit onto a separate DVD. I'd like to use a program such as Macromedia Director or Ulead VideoStudio. Problem is, my computer is a little out of date, so I need to do this somewhere that has the resources I need. Do you know of any such places? Internet cafes don't have such sophisticated equipment. I've considered classes, but can't find any that are specific enough to my needs. I think renting the equipment would be cost-prohibitive, but I haven't fully checked into this yet. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Ask NetNomads before you rule out cafés. With the time that goes into working in Director it may make more sense to get a new computer or upgrade your current system. If you get a Mac, it comes with iMovie, which is by far the easiest way to create DVD movies available on the market today. Another route is to use Flash and embed the movies in that. NetNomads has Flash.

Thanks, I checked with NetNomads, but they don't have the software or DVD burners yet. They may have them in early summer, but I need something before then.

mam, i would advise against editing your professional DVD's of your home movies to make a new dvd. in essence, you would be compressing your video footage twice (or making a copy of a copy).

perhaps you have a firewire drive that the transferrer can copy the video files over to. then you can edit from those files. if what i'm writing confuses you, privateline me and i can try to be more descriptive.
