Is there any one place in town that is better than the other? Better service, waranty etc? The muffler just went south and needs to be replaced! I cannot understand how people install mufflers that are supposed to sound loud. This thing is driving me crazy! Thanks for the input.

I can just generally recommend an independent shop over a chain. Consumer Reports has determined that they're generally not a good value, and they generally don't do as good work.

I've been to many independent shops over the years. The worst thing that has happened is that the mechanics were not familiar enough with my car, but they've been honest.

Dealers generally do good work, but they tend to do things "by the book" and recommend stuff that isn't really necessary. And they charge a lot. But sometimes they're the only people who can diagnose an esoteric problem, since they know your model well.

Exhaust systems don't require rocket sicence degrees so it'll all come down to price.
Walker makes good components but today there are so many after market companies it can be confusing.
Like I said shop around via phone.
Do you require only the muffler? Your system could be rotted and/or welded and may require total replacement.
Good luck.

We had a muffler replaced at Toomies a few years ago. They swear by Walker products.

Interestingly, mufflers seem to last a lot longer than they use to. Our cars tend to do a lot of short trips, then sit for hours and this use to kill mufflers. Now adays this doesn't happen.

Last time I had to replace a system was 2 years ago. Priced it out between a couple of private shops, Meineke, and Midas. Went with Midas in summit. Best price of all the contenders.

We went with World Tire on Springfield Ave. Great price and same day (Saturday with no apt) service.
