I was listening to Bloomberg Radio the other day, and one of the panelists said that, although the US is exporting jobs to India and China, they are also exporting something to us : "wage deflation". I absolutely loved this catch-phrase.

Has wage deflation hit you yet? It has hit me.

I have been consulting for the past 7 months for a large accounting/consulting firm in NJ. I am designing the same kind of systems that I have done for the past several years.

However, before I started this consulting position, an outsourcing company made a big pitch to my company to outsource their entire IT department for a fraction of the cost. My company, after a careful study, declined the offer to outsource, but the company now uses in-house consultants from that company.

As a result, the company adopted a new rate structure for incoming consultants that do not originate from that outsourcing company. No incoming consultant cannot makle more than x dollars an hour, where x is the rate that the outsourcing company charges plus some marginal amount.

Has wage deflation hit you or your company yet?

Marc
