Wish they would have at least one policeman "walk" the Avenue. Hell, I remember years ago there used to be one at the corner of Prospect and SA. He (or she) could hand out loads of tickets to those that double park, park by the bump outs, etc. |

I remember it too they use to have a cop walk the avenue and it was nice. They use to have them standing at Prospect Street and Springfield Avenue. Maybe at the next town meeting this should be brought up to the Mayors attention. I think then we will have a less problem of these people parking illegal. |

" Maybe at the next town meeting this should be brought up to the Mayors attention?" Ciobella, that's an excellent idea, but can we count on you to do that? NRL, Njphilf, how about either of you? Listen, if no one else can go I’d be glad to help out. What else would make a difference that we can mention?

Why wait for the town meeting? WHy not just call town hall or the police station and ask if its in the plans for SA? Art, Do you think a town meeting is a better forum for a question/request like this? |

NRL, yes I do... speaking in front of a township committee meeting is always better. There are a number of reasons. First, it's the right thing to do on the Avenue, and the TC is more likely to take some kind of action. Besides, the News Record could put it in the newspaper, the minutes creates a permanent record, it's recorded on Channel 35, and it gives the public another chance to respond to it. Go for it!

I saw two officers walking in the village the other night. I just realized this second, they might have been the Auxiliary Police. That could be an answer also. I think all of you have the right idea about more visibility from our police department on the Avenue. I'll bring it up at the next meeting and let you know what they said. I sure wish they would have someone official respond to these comments and suggestions on-line. Remember the good old days of Official Maplewood? I mean really, what's the big deal? There is no way we should be taking up so much of their time at the meetings with things like this. I believe a simple reply on line would more than suffice... Hello Fred, Ian… David, are you watching? Ken, Kathy, anyone out here? Please… pretty please… I’ll bet five will get you ten, if we elect a Republican, we’ll have a line of communication to the township committee on line for the next three years. We haven’t found someone to run yet. Anyone interested in changing parties? |

Sorry I've been absent from this discussion.I've been traveling. There are lots of things going on.I believe that I'd mentioned before that some of us from the SA Partnership will be having a face to face meeting with Chief Cimmino this week to discuss what he sees as the most pressing crime and safety related issues on SA. The hope is that we can get them identified and then systematically work to fix them. No matter how pretty we make it, SA can only be a success if it is viewed by shoppers and store owners as safe. The new benches are in and we are still waiting for PSE&G to finish getting the lights to work. I missed the last Partnership board meeting yesterday so I'm a bit behind the curve. May Fest should be a great event this year. More performers and a better overall layout. I drove my Harley from end to end on Sunday and things are looking pretty good. Still some sore spots but in general things are improving steadily. Beth McDonald is out there day after day working hard to make these continued improvements happen.

I think the new stores & facades look great, especially in the Prospect/ Springfield vicinity. Just one minor question - do you know when the Christmas/ winter holiday decorations are slated to come down? Is this done by the Springfield Ave. Partnership? |

We need lots of volunteers for MayFest. This is always a great day in the park for 1000 - 2000 people. We'll have music, games, vendors, food, something with the TC members that will embarass or inconvenience them (the dunk tank won't return though), a HR hitting contest. If you're interested in getting involved please email me at jeff.levine@ahsys.org or call Beth MacDonald at 973-763-6011. |

The Christmas/ winter holiday decorations installed by the partnership came down from our store in January. I've not seen any still up. Where are you seeing this? Perhaps what you are looking at is something the store owner put up.

Art I think you expect the level of decorum and civility that use. most of the time With the anonymity of this place people with unreasonable, or even reasonable, gripes can take shots at the elected officials and ruin the experience for the rest of us. I know for my own self, that if I had a pseudonym I would be inclined to say some mighty harsh things about some of the people out here, as it is the most I can muster is "dunderhead". I think its great that you can call anyone on the TC and air your beef. Would I like to see them post out here..YOU BET. But I dont think it is unreasonable for them to stay away from Soapbox, as it can turn mean spirited in a snap and not at all helpful. Which is too bad. The nice thing about having Vic and Jerry on line was that it kept the lines of communication between the TC and the residents of Maplewood open 27/7/365. Problems major and minor could be discussed openly and in some cases even resolved. Vic and Jerry were also able to provide updates and clarifications/corrections to commonly held perceptions and help readers to understand the background on some significant actions taken by the TC. Designating an official town poster, TC member or not would prove a real asset. |

Strawberry: Only the individual TC members can speak for whether they would want to speak with MOL posters on line but there are definite advantages to providing and maintaining an official on-line forum somewhere on the internet. Such an on-line forum would serve to: disceminate information quickly; provide a means of obtaining public opinion and needed information from those unwilling or unable to attend TC meetings and wait for a chance to be called to the open mike (time permitting); supplement special meetings (such as the meeting on the police station site mentioned in the N-R); keep in touch with the problems in town management identified by residents; and allow for an all important exchange of information and opinion on town specific issues. I can understand why each of the individual TC members might not want to become personally identified with such posts since statements made on-line and thus in everlasting print could come back to haunt one on election day but use of a neutral sign-on name such as "TC" or assigning this task to one township employee (Michele for example) who could refer questions to department heads before giving coherent answers would be real plus.

"I'll bring it up at the next meeting and let you know what they said." OK, last night I brought it up and the information I received is that they are aware of the problem, have also received requests for an increased police patrol for the Village as well, and will do the best they can with what they have... Well, if the police department is short on the manpower side of this issue, is anyone willing to settle for them parking an unmanned police car on the corner? This issue like all the rest will take follow up and a real interest by someone to get it handled. I won't lead the charge on this one, but I'll be glad to help out if anyone is still interested? |
