I noticed it was missing several hours later and after going back to look for it, discovered that some kind soul had found it and left it on the steps of the police station - all contents in tact! Thank you very much to this kind person. I nodded off--for just a few seconds!--but woke in time to be the last person leaping off the train. I followed the other passengers down the stairs, which I completely didn't recognize-- rather disconcerting when you've only just woken up. Picturing myself in Dover, (yet somehow hoping that South Orange had opened up some new stairway I hadn't noticed before) I asked what station this was. Maplewood. On hearing me cry, "Oh no. I slept through South Orange!" a very kind Maplewoodian offered to drive me back to the South Orange station. A passerby knocked on the door and handed the money over to my son, assuming it belonged to someone in the house!
