Has anyone noticed any problems on their channels 2,3,4,and 5 over the Comcast system? We have been getting terrible interference this evening. Truth be told, we only have 7 weeks 2 days until we pull the Comcast plug, and tell them they can pick up their two digital boxes and modem off the street in front of our house. |

Had the exact same problem. First, they replaced the splitter and some fittings outside. That did not work so they actually replaced the line that runs from the house to the telephone pole. That line was frayed and now I have perfect reception. |

after fighting with cablevision over lousy reception, i bit the bullet and went with DirecTV. Crystal-clear, and built-in TiVo. Life is good again.

I would love to have Direct TV. Even bought the equipment package and when the installer came he told us we had NO line of sight at all due to a very large oak tree in our backyard. Our only recourse, he told us, was to 1) chop the tree down !! 2) take down the top of the tree to below the level of the roof (ha, ha) and lastly, but not leastly 3) put in a 5 foot tall pole with the satellite dish on top in a very open space on the side of our yard ... and then... when the leaves come in with other trees to pare them down significantly, as their foliage would hinder getting a signal. Now, alas, we have to return the equipment and stick with the G_D-AWFUL comcast cable and pay thru the nose and get the worst customer service on top of that. Oy Vey !!! |

I'm not one to defend comcast, I've had my share of crappy customer service calls with them. But when I called re similar reception problems the guy who came keept at it till it was fixed. He replaced a spliter, made some changes where the line enters the house and made soem adjustmetns on the pole. Reception is prefect now. |

We have been having problems too. They told us it was due to sun spots. |

Sun spots affect transmission of radio signals through the air. It's pretty ludicrous that the cable company would blame sun spots for problems with transmission along a cable. You just spoke to an utter idiot. Demand better. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

I've been having the same problem with crappy reception and no On Demand or onscreen cable guide. Called Comcast last night, and they tried to resend the signal to "jump start" the system, and it seems that one of the chips is blown. At least that's what they told me. They'll be here tomorrow morning to take care of it (I hope...) |

Speaking of sun spots...could they be affecting my wireless internet access throughout my house? The past 2 days my signal has gone way down. It's normally 80-90% strength, now it's 30-40%. |

Not likely. Sunspots affect mostly HF, which is 3 to 30 MHz. Your wireless is 2.4 GHz, which is almost a thousand times higher. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing
