The day I decide to behave myself and go to Pathmark and load up on veggies and tuna fish there's a display of Krispy Kremes near the register so as I'm putting all the veggies in the fridge I'm warming up the Krispy Kremes in the microwave. Damn you Krispy Kremes!!!! |

In the words of their CEO during an interview on CNBC (I think) yesterday, "Krispy Kreme is an indulgence, not a meal." So don't fret about enjoying them from time to time! |

I like Dunkin Donuts MUCH better. All the Krispy Kremes seem to have sticky glaze on them. Give me a DD Sugar Raised or an Old Fashioned any day |

Alg- When I was a kid, we'd spend Wed. nights at my dad's house. On the way to take us to school Thursday am, we always stopped at DD for breakfast. That was before it became a DYFS crime to feed your kids donuts for breakfast! |

Any donut is a friend of mine. Unfortunately I am on Weight Watchers and one donut has enough points to be considered both breakfast and lunch so I haven't had one in about 6 months.

Wendyn --- I am on a diet too. Can I brag here? I'VE LOST 20 POUNDS SINCE JAN 1! I'm sitting pretty in some size 8 jeans right now. I haven't had a donut, a bagel, a slice ... none of that good stuff! Total Raisin Bran is my best friend. That and Lean Cuisine. I keep thinking, I've eaten enough donuts, bagels, slices in my life I can go without for a few months. My plan is to be the bikini chick at the pool this summer so look for me!! |

God, him and his "fat chick" comments! He's been making those for the past 15 years, probably longer. I really don't pay much attention to his comments ..... blah blah blah Bush blah blah blah stupid liberals blah blah blah fat chicks ... see what I mean? Please, don't ever take his comments too seriously -- he's harmless. my diet: total raisin bran w/ fat free milk for breakfast lunch --- 3 slices of roast beef or turkey on whole wheat toast w/ mustard dinner -- lean cuisine or something not too bad. I do get steaks at the pub and fajitas at toro loco once n a while drinks -- have cut down but not stopped drinking. What I have really stuck with is breakfast and lunch and I've been getting on the treadmill maybe 3 or 4 times a week. |

I'd prefer to talk more about Krispy Kremes than diets! I only have a KK a couple of times a year. Some of the stores have stopped carrying my flavor individually (Glazed Devil's Food Cake), however you can buy them by the half-dozen. They were gazing up at me in Pathmark this morning...those little orbs of mellifluous delight. |

Alg your diet sounds a lot like mine. I haven't gotten into the exercising yet, don't have equipment at home and no time/money to use an outside gym. I haven't lost nearly as much as you though...congrats and keep it up! "little orbs of mellifluous delight" -- perfect description! |

KK is way to sweat for my taste, and sticky. DD are so much better, I don't get all the hype, but then maybe it's the 'story' of the stock that went up when everything else went down. All that free press on CNBC.

Wendyn, look for small ways to increase your exercise. I recently decided that instead of picking my kid up from the afterschool program I would drop the car off at the house and quickly walk to school, then leisurely walk her home. It has added two miles to my daily routine and only an extra half hour or so. And, best benefit, we get relaxed time to talk together. We're both enjoying it. (And the scale says I've got the right idea as well!) If for some reason I know I won't be able to do the afterschool walk I try to do it at lunchtime, which is also a good way to clear my head when work gets too crazy. I've been tempted this week to do both walks! Maybe soon I will. Cathy |

I think part of the KK allure for me are sweet memories from my childhood. We had a KK shop growing up, but it went out of business several years ago (go figure!). I remember how nice it would smell inside. Like a real bakery. They used to sell them boxed (plain old glazed) and my mother would buy them on occasion. It was one of those treats that brought the family together. I guess when the chain started getting popular again, I tended to associate KK with nice memories. (I guess that could even be another thread -- what types of food do you associate with good memories). |

Thanks Cathy. I have been trying to do that...I walk up (and down) the stairs at work (5 flights...120 stairs!) almost every day. And I park farther away from the building than I need to. As soon as it gets a bit warmer and I'm not swamped here (although somehow I manage to post on MOL) I will start walking at lunch. Here's to fitting into pre-baby clothes! |

My parents live in Richmond, VA. When I visit them I have to go to Krispy Kreme at least every other day. When they're warm I can eat at least 4 glazed donuts. Heaven. I never touch them up here because it's just not the same. I might have to try to microwave trick, however. Hmmmm.

Krispy Kreme Plans Low - Sugar Alternative By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: March 12, 2004 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Hot. Now. Healthy? Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, long known for its high-calorie treats, says it plans to offer a low-sugar doughnut to attract dieters and diabetics. Exactly how low the sugar content would be was unclear. Krispy Kreme spokeswoman Amy Hughes said the new doughnut is still in the early stages of development. It is set to debut before the end of 2004. One of Krispy Kreme's Hot Original Glazed doughnuts has 10 grams of sugar and 200 calories. More than half those calories come from fat, 12 grams of it. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-Low-Sugar-Doughnut.html

In Boynton Beach, FL thay have a KK bakery where you watch the whole process through a glass wall as you walk down the production line, and when you get to the end they hand you hot one right off the line. Holy Carbs! |

Only 200 calories? That's about half the calories of a really good bagel - before you add the cream cheese. A simple form of exercise is to climb up and down the stairs in your house. Laundry day alone, I figure I do anywhere between 20 and 40 flights. |

Just for the record...doughnuts are fried not baked. So they are fresh out of the fryer...not oven. Exercise is just as important as diet for losing weight and maintaining good health. It drives me nuts when people go for these fad diets and cry about not having (pick one of the following..) bread, pasta, sugar, etc. when they really need to increase the amount of physical activity. I'm sure most people watch tv for at least 30 minutes a day. Take a walk. Take the stairs. Park farther away from the building. And stop bitchin....no one forces the food in your mouth. |

Blackcat- that's not true!!!! Every time I go to eat carrot sticks, little gremlins who live under our kitchen counter tops jump out, hold me down (it takes 5 of them) & one stands on my chest & does exactly that: forces ice cream down my throat! Lighten up, please. I would think it may be best not to be so judgemental unless you've walked a mile in my stretch pants.

I'm with algebra2: KKs are just too sloppy and wet...a good, fresh DD is far superior -- flakey, not too sweet. Everytime I have KKs, I feel like I need to take a shower. I hear Bush likes KKs, so no way am I going to eat THOSE donuts. |

I prefer my KK's a little on the chilled side. That way, they don't melt all over the place. I do find, though, that the plain glazed ones, the kind you can buy by the box in the store, tend to get a little more gooey than my favorite flavor. Yum...Mouth is now watering... |
