Winona, Minnesota, along the banks of the Mississippi River, about 1100 miles from here. My parents still live in the house where I grew up, which we moved into the summer before I started kindergarten.
In settling there, by the way, my parents ended up about 250 miles from their hometown in central Iowa.

At lunch we'd sit and watch the QEII come and go. Then I got a job in Bermuda for two years. At breakfast on my deck, I'd watch the QEII come and go.
