Running an emergency medical service is an expensive endeavor and we need your help to continue serving the community. Our goal is to raise $125,000 this year. These funds will allow us to replace our 10 year old ambulance with a new state of the art ambulance, provide our members with advanced medical training, and purchase new equipment. Please send your donations to 4 third street. if you are intrested in volunteering give us a call at 973 762 5647

reposted from the thread - A new piece of Tax exempt property for Seton Hall e roberts, Thank you for your posts in support of the South Orange Rescue Squad, we are a family of volunteers that love what we do. I just wanted to shed some light on why EMTAC (a Paid ambulance service) has been brought into town during the hours of 6a - 6p. Daytime volunteers are in short supply, not just in South Orange but all over, with costs going up people are forced to work longer hours, get a second job, or both parents in a family have to work. Where we used to find more people available during the days, we now find very few. The Rescue Squad, looking out for the best interest of the residents of the Township of South Orange Village approached the village with the proposal to bring in a paid service 6a t6 6p, until such time as we get the daytime manpower to take over once again, we look forward to that time. The Rescue Squad has been providing FREE service to the villagers and mutual aid to surrounding towns for over 50 years and we look forward to doing it for another 50 years. We respond on average to between 1100 - 1300 calls for service per year The Rescue Squad provides training free of charge to its new and current members, we have our own CPR Instructors and we soon will once again be offering CPR classes at our HQ on Third Street. Minimum age for membership is 17 1/2 y/o, although we have a Cadet program for 15 1/2 to 17 1/2 y/o. If you are interested in volunteering please give us a call at 973-762-5647 leave a message or E-mail us at info@SouthOrangeRescue.org and we will get back to you. Emergency Medical Services is not a cheap endeavor and it is provided by the Squad at no charge, we have historically done one fundraiser a year to fund our services. We operate two ambulances, a 2002 McCoy Miller and a 1993 P.L. Custom that desperately needs to be replaced (approx. $125,000), we aren’t necessarily looking for everyone to give us a ton of money (although it would be nice!), but if everyone gave something it would help us immensely. If Seton Hall or any business or group of business were to be interested in purchasing or helping to purchase a new ambulance we would be most gracious. The Squad is a member of The New Jersey State First Aid Council and have a minimum standard of training we must abide by. The council inspects our ambulances annually. Our volunteers are committed from day one, to become an Emergency Medical Technician they spend over 100 hrs taking the EMT training course, they must recertify every three years, during which time they must take a mandatory 48 continuing education credit’s in various training, 24 core and 24 elective credits. In addition to all of that keeping their CPR current every two years. Please help us; The life you save may be your own.
