OK, I'm not kidding here... after reading the other thread about speghetti and meatballs, I've been thinking for HOURS about simple pesto pasta. Having drooling fits recalling Patsy's in Manhattan. Seriously, anyone have good recommendations for a place with good pesto? Pleeeease!!! Oh, and I love spedino too! Mmm... them fried mozerella... Thanks! |

Pizzaz. Try our Pesto Pizza or Pesto over Pasta ( your choice of pasta). I had the Pesto Pizza this past weekend, it was sensational. |

DiPietro's on Springfield Ave in Maplewood has a good homemade pesto sauce in their refrigerator section. What is spedino? (They might have it....they're an old fashioned Italian market). |

Spedino is a simply fried mozarela sandwich... usually served with anchovy sauce. Mmmm... drool... best when served crispy hot. Tomato sauce is so overrated (but love them nevertheless)... Italians really hit it right with pesto and achovies! OK, running off to wipe my keyboard dry... |

OK, now I HAVE to have Spedino. And it's your fault. Never knew about it, but now ... I LOVE ANCHOVIES. They make me happy. PLEASE let me know when you find spedino locally, so I can try it. |

Wilkinoid... ah a fellow connaisseur of the humble anchovy! 8) The best spedino I have found is unfortunately in Manhattan at Patsy's Restaurant on 56th between Broadway and 8th. They serve a 2 portion appetizer. When they do it right, the spedino crust is crunchy to the bite, the mozerella hot, soft and moist on the followthrough bite. Blended to that is the anchovy sauce they smother on the dish with slight hints of basil. The sea saltiness and aroma of the sauce balances out the mildness of the cheese. Heaven. Amazing how fermented fish and curdled milk can provide such manna.

Go to Cent'Anni in Maplewood. If it's not on the menu, ask. I'm pretty sure spiedini is an appetizer. |

Thanks, Dave. I'll find an excuse to go there and try it. |
