There were two separate spottings by anonymous callers of two stray dogs roaming the Millburn area in recent days. The State Police were called in along with Federal Wildlife authorities to track and capture the dogs. The joint State and Federal task force put together to locate these dogs informed the public friday afternoon in press conference that the NJSP helicopter, "North Star" would be patrolling the Millburn/Maplewood border during the early morning hours. They stated that all was safe and the residence of Millburn, Maplewood, and South Orange should go about business as usual. |

Actually the helicopters have been chartered by the Millburn BOE to detect Maplewood kids sneaking over the border to illegally attend school in Millburn. The choppers are equipted with FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared Radar). I believe they found three kids yesterday morning and dispatched them with 20mm canon fire. It was very messy. |

The millburnweb.com website had a couple of reports by posters that they were doing a deer count. I hope they don't shoot any more of the poor things. Made In England |

I guess some threads are even too boring for Strawberry to post "boring". |

The Friday helicopters were covering a big fire in Vauxhall. I saw it on the news Friday before I left for work Friday and then heard the helicopters at the train station. They said it was near the intersection of Valley St and Vauxhall. |

I passed by that house yesterday. It was not just gutted, it was totally charred! Probably no way to salvage anything about the structure, much less its contents. I hope everyone got out in time and that they had decent insurance. Cathy |

The news reported that it was a vacant house, although they also reported that it had spread next door. I hope that those people got out in time. |

Thanks for the info, lah. We passed it with my kid in the car. I have a knee-jerk interest in fires since my father was a volunteer fire fighter and I occasionally went to the scenes with him. So, before thinking I tend to blurt out something like "Whoa! Look at that house! Totally charred!" My daughter has been voicing some anxiety about house fires lately (perhaps from a safety program at school?) And my pointing out that sight was no help. At least I can reassure her that no one was in the house and nobody's treasured possessions were lost either. Cathy |
