i just have to say that the DPW gets a bad wrap in this town....these guys work their tails off...out in the snow...out in the hot sun....and they work hard!!! a few years ago there was about 50 guys now there is about 35 or so..why is that? shouldn't there be more people to get the jos done faster and less amount of work ? is there less people because of money? i'd really like to know something just doesn't seem right here...

35 sounds like too many. 30 would be more reasonable. 25 could do a great job, too. Let them make their overtime. They deserve it.

Flt, if 35 sounds like too many when there used to be 50 to do less of the job it is today, perhaps you could form a committee to take over some of their duties. A Garden Club sounds like fun, and then you and your volunteers could plant and maintain all the perennial blooms that you see around town each spring and summer.

Sound good? Call John Gross at Village Hall for help in setting up such a committee.

Yeah, DPW is the big money drain.

Go out and vote to pay your local trustees! You're their ideal resident!

How about getting Maplewood to pay their fair share of the school tax.

Elsewhere on MOL I'm reading that Maplewood is losing its plastics recycling due to a huge increase in the cost levied on the town by the company they contract with, Waste Management (I believe).

Does anyone know whether South Orange may soon be facing a similar situation?
