Very cold and shaky, but in warm house for now - did you lose a young black/gray male terrier wearing a black harness, but no tags? Found near Maplewood Middle School. A neighbor has him right now - Animal Control wouldn't come out (grrrr....) Very sweet dog, obeys sit and lay command. Obviously raised in a house with children - warmed right up to a 2 yr old. Looks like he's been out for a little while -- a bit shaggy looking and very hungry, terrified at first. PL me if this is your dog, or you know who is looking for him. Animal control is supposed to come tomorrow morning (animals shouldn't get lost unless its business hours!) He's obviously someone's dog! Barbara |

ask the animal warden to scan the dog for a 'chip' to see if it has one. if it does, this will give you the owner's information. |

The dog, now named Sam, is "staying" with a family on my street who have absolutely fallen in love with him. While they've taken him to the vet, gotten him a rabies shot and given him a bath, they haven't formally adopted him -- they're waiting out the week to see if anyone claims him. Sam was clearly someone's dog - he's housebroken, loves children, obeys simple commands -- but he was also out on the street for a while. His hair had started to thin, as had his body. If not claimed, he will be a very lucky pup to have this new family. PS, the family's 2 yr old named the dog for my son! |

By the way Joel - even as a (fairly new) dog owner -- I don't know that I would have gotten this involved with this pooch - standing outside freezing while trying to figure out what to do with this dog that no one would come to take since it was outside of business hours (!!) -- if I hadn't been following what was happening with you, Melissa and Rozzie. Living with your distress as if I had lost our Josie, I knew I couldn't walk away. Thanks for that. (And, I think I told you, I stopped when I saw a group of teens studying the dog and a piece of paper they were crowded around -- trying to figure out if Sam was Rozzie. They were thinking of you too. And the police office that finally came (after a bit of coersion on the phone!) went and got a "lost dog" flyer too to check against - of course it was Rozzie!) I had not noticed a single stray dog in the six months we have lived in Maplewood until Rozzie was lost. It's been a huge eye opening experience over the past three weeks. What a huge change of life awaits the poor dog who strays past her front lawn! Sam sounds like a lucky pooch, as does Josie. Thanks so much for remembering us, Barbara. I am still hopeful that Rozzie will be back with us soon. Joel

J and M- While we haven't seen your dog, your posters on our side of town have been noticed by adults, teenagers and youngsters like my son. The other day a neighbor came by the house walking a small terrier-like dog and my son, usually oblivious to the outside world, said this dog looked just like the "dog on the poster." My wife just told me one of our neighbors is following this thread, and whenever they shop SA(frequently) they keep an eye out for Rozzie. FWIW, based upon our own experiences, I think your feelings that Rozzi is now living in another household is probably on the mark. We have a 15 year old "Brooklyn Sheperd" (Shep/Doberman mix) we found in our old neighborhood, Kensington/Brooklyn about 14 years ago. He had been "living" in the neighborhood for about a month before we took him into our house.
