We promised our son we'd get him a swingset for his birthday---can anybody recommend a place (online or bricks and mortar) to buy a high-quality swingset for a somewhat reasonable price? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

High quality and fairly high prices, but worth it: www.cedarworks.com. |

A second vote for Cedarworks, my opinion, by far the best. |

Thanks to the two of you--we had found cedarworks online but were hoping that we could do it for cheaper; but it seems the more we think about it and research it that spending the extra money is worth it. I think cedarworks just got a new customer. |

We looked at Cedar Works and also looked at Rainbow Playsets (they have a store in the Palisades Mall). We then saw that Costco has a Rainbow set for $999 that looks great. It may not be quite as good as Cedar Works, but for 1/3 the price, it should certainly fit the bill. |

The Costco set (made by Rainbow) is also available at costco.com for $1399 (which includes shipping) or can be picked up at the store for $999. |

Often Lowes and similar have kit versions of wood swing sets, with all the pieces and wood pre-cut. You do the labor, and as a result, they're cheaper |

Also remember that kids outgrow swing sets very quickly. Then you have a large, useless "thing" in your yard. |

bobk's point leads me to think that lots of folks in the area might have a set they would be willing to sell. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

One of the nice things about the Cedar Works sets is that they are solid and sturdy enough to hold big people, not just little kids. And they seem attractive to older kids also. We have had teenager friends "hang out" on ours occasionally and hoards of neighborhood kids (all ages) on ours on many summer days and evenings. Our next door neighbors just got one last summer, so now the neighborhood crowd has two of them to choose from. |

Be very careful about letting neighborhood kids use your swingset unsupervised, especially after your own children have gone on to other activities. You can be held responsible for injuries since the swingset is an 'attractive nuisance". This actually happened to a friend of ours. Kiddies were sneaking into the yard, using the playset and one broke his arm and a law suit resulted and a large settlement was made. |

We have a wooden swingset in the back yard we'll give away for the taking. It has one swing, one thing that goes back and forth (looks sort of like a teeter-totter), one climbing thing, plus a canopied platorm. It has a weathered look. It's free. |

I was interested in buying the Costco swingset. Does anyone know who I can hire to put it together & how much I should expect to pay someone to do so>? |

Newmom, I had asked the folks at Rainbow that question & they said they could refer you to people who would do it for around $300-$400. I will likely do it myself, but it will likely take a weekend. BTW, the set at Costco has it's own website: http://www.sunraypremiumplaygrounds.com |

Newmom, If you find someone to put up your swingset, could you please post their name and number or private line me. We have a Costco set sitting in our garage that we'd like to get up as soon as the weather gets better. Thanks. |
