The date is fast-approaching ... PETER PAN will be FLYING in through the window to look for his shadow starting this Friday night at 7:30. The small taste of the show we were given at the Music Marathon was delicious. What a talented and dedicated bunch of kids -- the actors, dancers, pit orchestra and crew! Come to see the show -- you will be amazed! (Not invited, by me anyway, are Lamkin and Nathenson who feel that this kind of student endeavor should not be funded by the BOE.) |

Forgive the stupid question, but we just moved to South Orange... where exactly is Columbia High School? We'd like to see the show.

Columbia High School is on Parker Avenue, at the corner of Valley Street, in Maplewood. If you come down Valley towards Maplewood, you'll pass Pathmark on your right, then you'll see the school's sports fields on your left, and the side of the school on the left just after that. There is a small parking area back there, or you can make the left turn onto Parker at the light (Shell gas station at opposite corner) and find parking on the street. The entrance to the school is on Parker. |

Early review: My (usually cynical) CHS student saw preview scenes at an assembly this morning and said that it was so good that she wanted to cry. She hopes to see it more than once. |

Does anyone know when the doors open on the night or day of a performance? |

Run, don't walk, to buy or reserve your tickets. I saw part of yesterday's dress rehearsal -- words won't do justice to how good these kids are. A little boy sitting in front of me couldn't stop clapping, he was so excited when Peter flew in! "Peter" is amazingly talented -- followed close behind by the other cast members. The orchestra plays a very difficult score (written BTW by Bill Charlap's father!) very well without any "ringers." Hurry! |

Can tickets be purchased in advance or can reservations be made (or is this totally unnecessary)? If so, are they for a specified performance or good at any performance? |

F A B - U - L O U S ! ! What an incredible production and to think these are high school kids. Tell all your friends and neighbors, especially the ones with kids, that they have to see this show! The cast is perfect, the music very professional, costumes and sets and lighting put the icing on the cake... and when Peter Pan flies thru that window and onto the CHS stage -- what a thrill!

Doors to the auditorium open 30 min before the show. Tickets can easily be purchased at the door. There are no reserved seats so get there early for a good spot. Matinees are usually less crowded. For large groups, call the school. There is candy for sale during the two intermissions as well as Peter Pan T-shirts and pirate stuff for the kids. |

Just curious--can anyone tell me which of the songs in Peter Pan were written by Jule Styne and which by Moose Charlap? |

Come to the play and ask Mr. Mey, the musical director. I'm sure he would be happy to know of your interest. You could speak with him during the intermissions or when the show is over. |

Agree the show was fabulous. Cast, crew, orchestra all top notch. Go early to get seats as the auditorium was packed last night. Unfortunately some of the audience members were the most obnoxious, inconsiderate, foul-mouthed people on the planet. Although Peter Pan is a kids show, an evening performance that starts at 7:30 and doesn't end until after 10pm is no place for children under age 4. They get tired, antsy, kick the seats etc. The adults were even worse! Discussion with friends who were on the other side of the auditorium revealed that the crying, noise of chip wrappers etc echoed throughout. It is true...silence is golden.

It's endlessly depressing to me that people have no sense of what's appropriate for a given situation and what's not. Besides being distracting to the people around you who may want to hear what's going on, it's very disprespectful to the performers. |

A few thoughts... Wonderful show...my four year old was thrilled (and quiet) throughout, and is already planning to do Peter Pan again when she is in high school, so that she can fly on a wire! I don't remember high school theater being done so well when I was in highschool (elsewhere). An aside on behavior...crackling food wrappers are a distraction. However, this distraction was enabled by the school choosing to sell this food at the auditorium door, as a fund raiser, and to allow it in the auditorium. Although the people behind me were bad tempered and didn't really seem to want to be there, I found the audience generally quiet and well behaved. You must have been sitting in a very different part of the auditorium than I was. Let me say again, wonderful show and many kudos to those who put it on. |

Come to the show next weekend! Tell your friends and neighbors. Saw all 3 performances this weekend and did not find the noise from wrappers and children to be upsetting. As the curtain rose there was a big "OOH" from a toddler that charmed the whole audience. |
