I received some News Record supplement that said the Performance Art Center was breaking ground this month (on the 23rd I believe?). Can Mr. Rosner or anyone else confirm if this is the case?

According to the "Gaslight", as well as the following email I received, this is correct:

DATE: Sunday, June 23, 2002
TIME: 2:00 PM
LOCATION: The "new" New Jersey Transit Parking Lot, Adjacent to So. Orange Train Station
EVENT: Groundbreaking with Singer/Actor/Performer John Davidson "digging in" to celebrate the beginning of our very own arts center and movie complex.

Mr. Davidson will be sharing his singing talents in this rare local appearance. Officials will also be on hand to kick-off the day's special events which include "Cool Jazz," Tastes of Hollywood, and Family and children-friendly entertainment. The event is to herald the beginning of the construction of South Orange Performing Arts Center which is expected to take 18 months to complete. DON'T MISS THIS CELEBRATION WHICH WILL HIGHLIGHT THAT DREAMS CAN COME TRUE!

The only place I have seen the News Record for sales is the "smoke shop" on Valley (?) across the street from Adler & Co.

They do publish many of the stories to the web each week at www.mysouthorange.com.

Most people that I know, simply subscribe & get the News Record via home delivery.

The Corner Shop on Irvington also carries it.

Mr. Rosner,

We are now going on month 3 after the official ground breaking ceremony for the new arts center. When is development going to start? What is the hold-up?

We have a meeting Monday night and I hope to find out then. The "unofficial" ground breaking was supposed to be in late August. I will find out and post next week.

Mr. Rosner,

When you have a chance, could you please update this board with the outcome of Monday's meeting.

Thanks

I did not get the answer. The arts board is meeting next Monday and then I should really know the date of when the construction starts. I apologize, but the regular meeting lasted past 11P.M. and everyone wanted to go home at that point.

Dearest Mrosner et al Trustee Honchos and Honchettes,

I will be offering a course at the adult school called "How to Manage Expectations and Prevent Massive Disappointments". Perhaps the Village Trustees would like to attend? It's only $25 for the ten minute session.

(You won't learn anything, but it will make me feel good to yell at you for a little while.) <-- good example of what the class teaches.

Dr Stefano

I think I have already become an expert and could easily be a substitute teacher.

It's only been 5 years since it was announced! Let's give the developer at least another 3-5 to pour the foundation.

I personally am volunteering to pitch a tent and bring my boombox on the spot so everyone can have something to hope for...

Concessions will be provided from my propane stove - hot dogs only $1.

Brian, if that was teasing you have to try harder.
Jeff, thanks for giving Brian grief.
Stefano, I did not see your course in the SOMAS bulletin. Was it a late addition? If you take my course, I will take your course. Mine is "Six Weeks To Success In Small Business" priced at (just) $99. For people too busy to put in twelve hours and fork up $99, I offer "Three Weeks To Failure" for $49.99.

Dave - Did I fly in under the "no free advertizing" radar?

I have a feeling it's going to be later than we would have liked. There's construction already going on in the lot to make the station handicap accessible. I doubt they can accomodate both projects at the same time.

The arts board meeting was last night (not Monday due to the holiday).
There is still not a definitive date that construction will start. The problem has to do with the plans from the architect and resolving some issues. There will be some people at the site over the next couple of weeks doing some preliminary work.
I can say that construction will not start for at least another month.
I would not see how the construction that NJ Transit is doing would be in conflict with this project. There project is mostly on the platform and in the station itself.
