How does a resident request a review of a traffic problem? Specifically, the intersection of SO Ave. & Ridgewood Rd. has become a nightmare. At rush hour, the intersection is blocked at every light change, and then the horns start.
Traffic at SO Ave. and Valley is regulated by a police office at rush hour and I am sure that the Ridgewood Road intersection is at least as busy. I don't even want to contemplate what it is going to be like when the monstrosity on 3rd St. is fully occupied
Is this a question I should bring up to the police department? If so, who and how?
I live near this corner and the horns are unbearable. I noticed leaving NYC via the Lincoln tunnel today signs stating a $350 fine for horns, maybe that is a solution.
Thanks,
Stephanie

Stephanie, if not a police officer every day at rush hour, how about a hefty fine for "blocking the grid". The main problem seems to be traffic heading east that must merge into one lane just beyond the light. Naturally, it gets completely clogged up where the actual merge is because EVERYBODY wants to go first. And then the people who continue into the intersection once the light turns yellow knowing that there's no place for them to go except into the intersection thereby blocking the traffic on Ridgewood in both directions. I agree with you it is maddening to say the least. And yes, it will get MUCH worse once the monstrosity on Third Street is filled; not to mention all of the units being planned for the old Beifus property on South Orange Avenue and the hundreds(?) of units planned for the Shop-Rite site. Enforcement of the traffic laws are definately in order especially at that intersection. What say you, Mr. Rosner?

Mr. Rosner, I guess the traffic isn't a problem for you since you don't have to listen to the horns for three hours every day.
Thanks for the response.

Mr. Rosner,
Your commentary seems to have missed the point. This is about how people feel about Ridgewood and Third, not about Sloan and Third. These are valid complaints and the people making them are asking the South Orange to do something because it is the Village's right, title, and responsibility to respond, no matter how difficult.

Guys -- I think he addressed our concerns. Mr. Rosner said they have discussed a traffic officer and a plea to the county to synchronize the lights -- so it sounds like the problem is on the radar. If we want to get this fixed we need to participate in the offical town meetings, as he also suggested. MOL is a good place to start but it seems only one town trustee is taking the time to learn from this board. We can't just make one post and expect a resolution from him.

My question concerned the intersection of SO Ave. & Ridgewood. I know the Ridgewood & 3rd intersection affects the SO Ave. corner, but the lack of enforcement at SO Ave. and Ridgewood appears to be part of the problem. Drivers should be ticketed for blocking the intersection. This corner has not had a police office present at rush hour since the road was narrowed. I would think that a few weeks of enforcing existing traffic laws would help alleviate the problem.

Mr. Rosner, thank you for your efforts. We could not ask for more and it is appreciated. I hope some of the other trustees see it the same way.
If we could just get some enforcement, I am sure that it would help the situation (or at least give me some personal satisfaction to see some of these folks get a ticket)

Mr. Rosner. Thanks for responding. It is commendable that you make yourself available for these discussions.
