I am saddened by the news of his untimely death. He was one of the good guys.

They called him the only 60s radical to be elected to the U.S. Senate.

Well, he was an old socialist but he stood up for his beliefs and his constituents. He absolutely believed in the power of ordinary people to affect government and his committment to grass roots organizations and community politics was unparalleled. Yes, he often took unpopular positions (ie. his stance on military intervention in Iraq) but he was an honorable and generous man.

I think he as an good human being even if I didn't always agree with him. His memorial was a little bizarre though, more like a pep rally really....

I think his memorial service was exactly as he would have wanted.

Thankfully, the good people of Minnesota saw that spectacle for exactly what it was and let the Clintons and Mondull know it.

Good post Ejt. That "memorial service" was a disgrace.

Just saw Mondale's concession speech. By the somber look on his face you would have thought he was attending a memorial service.

I watched that memorial for a few seconds and couldn't watch it for more than that. I had a call from a brit friend who watched it in London and they all thought it was disgraceful. Those people looked like they were GLAD he died...

It was a big disgrace. Colleagues of Paul Wellstone from both sides of the aisle came to attend a memorial for a public servant and friend. Some of them, most notably Trent Lott, were booed by the audience.

What a sham and a shame that decency couldn't prevail.
