Hallelujah! I've found a cyber cafe! I'm sitting in Rotterdam, along with 50 other teenagers at 1.30 euro/hour for access. Don't I feel Continental??

Things I love about the Netherlands:
1. Everybody speaks English, which is very lucky for me. I am not so sophisticated as to be able to travel on business and speak the native language.
2. Travel is so easy - shop owners will call you a cab if you can't find one.
3. It's just so, so..... European!
4. They have a Westin hotel across from the Rotterdam train station.

Things I can't stand:
People let there dogs s**t in the middle of the sidewalk. I remembered that just as I walked thru a pile while out window shopping.

I realize just what a MOL addict I am when I walked past this place & walked in without even thinking about it. My last night here & I'm online. How pathetic. Of course, it's Monday, so all the shops are closed. Tomorrow, I'm going to play a little afternoon hooky & go to Amsterdam. May as well get in a couple hours of sight seeing before I leave for home.

Seriously, ya gotta hand it to Europe. Watching the news, I realize just how egocentric we are as a nation. When the world news is on, the world news is on. Not just 3 minutes of conglomerated news blurbs from Peter Jennings. For example, did you know that Jordan has a huge tourist industry, with beautifull cities & countryside? Or that tourism is 67% of the Lebanese economy? European stocks are doing MUCH better than the US markets; many experts here are advising people to invest here. If we have to wonder why we have such a hard time with global allies or in the U.N., maybe we need to look at our own government and media. Methinks our 'global' outlook ain't so global. Perhaps if we gave the rest of the world a little more respect or acknowledgement of their existence, we'd get more cooperation back?

Sorry to turn a facetious musing into a soapbaox item... I don't think I can move a thread & didn't realize I was going where I ended up. So, if you disagree with me, sorry. Won't be logging back in for several days.

Greentree,
It's geographical - Jordan to the Netherlands is like Los Angeles to NYC. The EU has 19 + countries, the US has 50 states. My friends from outside the US are constantly amazed by the sheer size and complexity of the US, and are very impressed how we manage to keep the consistency of one government and one society, with so many different cultures.
One thing I like about traveling to Europe - much as I like it, it feels like heaven when I finally get home!

Sox,
Definitely. Just had another green card carrying friend move back here from Europe - cheaper to live and work here than struggling to pay the euro prices over there...
