Al Roker's stomach is now the size of a walnut, I hear. He had to keep the surgery confidential from the entire Today show, but somehow he landed a 100 lbs lighter on the cover of People magazine.

In a wonderful twist in that same issue of People, Chris Sell, husband of a friend of mine, was profiled for his Park Slope Chip Shop, a fish-and-chips eatery that is the home of the delicious and not at all healthy deep-fried Twinkie. When it's really cold and snowy, go have a deep-fried Twinkie.

The deep-fried Twinkies were the big hit of the Texas State Fair in October. I thought they were from down south in the land of HEB, Skaggs Albertson's and Piggly Wiggly!

Apparently state fairs all around the country picked up on it. They are the perfect state fair food, too. A year or two ago, Chris and some of his Chip Shop friends were hanging around on a slow night test-frying different desserts. This one made it. From what I've learned, the Twinkie has a high enough volume to surface area ratio to fry without dissolving completely. It's a good bet the new Al Roker will not be trying one.

At this point, I am looking out my office window in W. Orange at about an inch on the ground. It's coming down steadily. I got here at 6:50am; just in time to get the last of 7 coveted & covered parking spots. Didn't want to have to clean off my car at the end of the day. Now if only I'd been smart enough to bring my lunch!

How is it now? Anyone further west, like in Summit. I have a closing at 4:00 in Summit and I MUST make it. Hell or high water kind of thing. I am in the city and planning on taking a 2:17 train to be sure I get there in time! Ahhhhhh, why today???

Maplewood has about 3" right now and still coming thick and fast. Roads look pretty bad. Not much in the way of ploughing yet.

...A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR MONDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT...

AN UNUSUALLY STRONG HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM FROM CANADA WILL PLACE A COLD AIRMASS ACROSS THE REGION TONIGHT. ON MONDAY...AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL FORM ALONG THE MID ATLANTIC COAST...AND THEN INTENSIFY AS IT HEADS NORTHEAST PASSING WELL SOUTHEAST OF LONG ISLAND MONDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL SET UP THE LOCAL AREA FOR A POTENTIAL MAJOR EARLY SPRING SNOW STORM.

SNOW AND SLEET ARE EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE AREA DURING THE MORNING AND COME DOWN HEAVY AT TIMES IN THE AFTERNOON. THE SNOW AND SLEET SHOULD TAPER OFF DURING THE EVENING HOURS...BUT NOT BEFORE LEAVING AS MUCH AS 4 TO 6 INCHES ON THE GROUND.

I must report the following: I have discovered the villian who caused this storm.

My coworker admitted to me this morning that she put away her winter clothes last week and got out the spring/summer wear. Her thoughtless actions brought this down on all of us & she apologizes.
