but the Giants really sucked then. this was a bigger collapse in a bigger game. The Vikings game in '98 was almost as bad with the botched coverages and the muffed onside kick.

NFL rules specifically prohibit anyone other than the QB from spiking the ball, and even they must only do it from receiving a snap from under center. In other words a shotgun snap spike is not allowed.

Well, that just makes it worse! Who oversees the officials? I saw the 49ers go offsides at least three times without a flag. There should be some form of retribution for bad calling by the referees.
