Hello. My 86-year-old mother came to live with me last year after my father died. She's both mentally and physically healthy, but is bored as heck. Although she attends the SO library lectures and reads a book a week, she longs for the companionship of people of her generation. Is there a senior club we've failed to hear about? Theater? Card games? Dancing? Baird doesn't seem to offer such activities.

There is a Senior Circle at the Baird. Call 973-762-0359

Also, the Adult School and the JCC both have afternoon activities for the "Senior" set.
Check the Adult School for a schedule 762-5600. I don't have a number for the JCC but they are in West Orange on Northfield.

Hope these leads help!

Tell her to come say hi next time she's in the library.

Does she drive, or do you live within walking distance to a school? Perhaps (and yes, I realize this does not involve the companionship of others in her generation), she could volunteer at a school once a week.
