After months of having a sign indicating changes were coming to the www.southorange.org site, the new site seems to have been implemented in what I am coming to believe is typical south orange style:

Late, glitz with no substance, a new facade over the same broken down interior.

The information still reflects April gas light and minutes.

Why is it so hard to get anything done well in South Orange???

Agreed. And why is half of it scanned in pictures of OLD items? Is it that hard to either retype, scan and OCR, or actualy get the source data for the Gaslight and the other items that are just pictures of text?

The latest meeting agenda is from April? C'mon. My 13 year old nephew keeps his web site more up to date, and seems to have more relevant information.

Lastly, does anyone know the fiscal year fo the town? I ask because in the Budget section, it says "The Budget for 2003 is to be introduced February, 2003" Um... Isn't that a couple of months too late?

You know I'd be the first person to criticize the way things are done in South Orange, however, I'm pleased to see they have finally made SOME attempt at upgrading the old antiquated site. Certainly, it needs more work, but I like the style and the direction that the new site is heading in.

In all fairness, the new site even has the disclaimer that it will be upgraded in phases. Let's just hope it takes less than 4 years to complete THIS project.

I'm especially pleased to see the agenda for the UPCOMING Trustees meeting posted in advance. Let's hope they continue to update that on a regular basis. That has been a very long time coming.

It is a work in progress, but we do have someone who is dedicated to keeping it updated as improvements are made.
Suggestions and comments are always welcome and any that are sent to me will be forwarded to village hall.

Woodstock, Municpal Budget are always approved halfway through the year. The main reason is the state has to approve the budget and they do not even look at them till the late spring.
That is one of the reasons we have a five year plan that is reviewed every January during the budget meetings (almost all of them are open meetings) and we make adjustments while we review the current budget.

Anything is better than nothing (usually) and this is an improvement, even if just to the navigation of the site. I think there are better pictures for the home page, though; the ones being used say "ghost town" to me. And I like the "news ticker" on the home page. Good idea.

Mark Rosner,

Please send kudos to whoever is responsible for the new Village website. While it certainly still needs work, I have been looking at it over the past few weeks & have noticed steady & consistent progress. (hopefully we can say the same about downtown redevelopment someday!) :-)

It's great that meeting agendas are out there & have even been updated in advance.

Thanks!!

Mark,
Glad to hear that the meeting Agenda is posted on the Village website. However, FYI...the site is virtually down tonight (producing an ASP error for most of the links).

I tuned in late to the meeting on TV to hear Mary raving about Chris (Hartwyck, I assume), but missed what the issue was. What was the issue?

I heard Mr. Hartwyck resigned his $70,000 per year part time job for the Village very recently. Is that true?

I am not sure why the site was down last night but it is working right now.
Mr. Hartwyk resigned as of 3/24/2003. He gave his sixty days notice last week.
Trustee Theroux was thanking Mr. Hartwyk for his service and dedication to the village.

Thanks, Mark. Yes...the SO website does appear be working properly again.

Boy...the way Mary was fanatically raving about a Village employee who ran her campaign for election (Hartwyck) made me wonder how she would speak about another Village employee (John Gross) with whom she has an intimate personal relationship.

Talk about conflicts of interest!

Mayhewdrive..Are you sure it's John and not Chris involved in the INTIMATE relationship with Mary?

Nancy,

Based on that rant last night, I can certainly understand that misconception. However, multiple sources have confirmed that our Trustee is in fact intimately involved with our Village Administrator.

How and why this well known Conflict of Interest has been allowed to go on for so long (publicly for at least several months)is really disturbing.

Mayhewdrive, Can it. Guess you didn't recognize the sarcasm of my previous post. The trustees private lives are just that private, not fodder for a community BB> I am sure that any possible coi has been vetted and if there was any such conflict steps would have been taken to correct it.
In the meanwhile, drop your rant. It is quite unbecoming and extremely petty.

Nancy,

A Trustee can be intimate with a goat in their private life for all I care. However, once an elected public official becomes intimate with the highest paid hired public official, it then becomes relevant to the public to ensure no conflict is occurring.

Well, I wanted to recind my previous negative comments about the web site. From what I've seen recently, it looks like they've put quite a bit of effort into redesigning not just the facade, but the entire website's look and content.

Great job! to whomever is responsible.

Mark,

Yes...I noticed that the latest meeting minutes have finally been posted as well. Thank you.

Do you have any update on when the meeting minutes from Closed Sessions will be posted?

The village is trying to post the minutes fairly quickly after they are approved.
I don't know if a decision has been made as to when the closed session minutes will be posted on the web-site.

Mayhewdrive: The closed session minutes you inquired about have been posted on-line. The village will continue to try to post the minutes after they have been approved within a reasonable time period.
