I miss:

seeing the Indigo Girls for free & dining on cheap pizza & beer at The Dugout while my clothes were washing next door (guess I was a multitasker from way back!)
...the pre-going out ritual of getting ready with my friends
...a place we called The Backwater - my roommate's family lake house
......the huge amount of time that was devoted to friendship
...the sport of watching others do "the walk of shame" - not nice - but amusing at the time
...staying up all night drinking way too much coffee/alcohol & having (pseudo?) intellectual debates
...deciding on a road trip at 3 AM & then having my friends figure out how to get into my trunk from inside my moving car in order to get beers for themselves
...needing to keep a supply of extra toothbrushes because my place was a regular crash pad
...the feeling of first political awakening & the fun/feeling of urgency of wearing a black arm band at the drop of a hat
...The feeling that anything was possible

"when the college kids get out of the city,
i'll take over and the city is mine
when the sun beats hot on the vacant lot,
i can't wait for the summertime.

can't wait for the summertime,
can't wait for the summertime,

gonna love you baby,
gonna make you mine....."

Taking bike rides at 2am just because. Well, the fact that it hadn't yet sunk in that I ought to do my studies helped feed that sense of responsibility.

Getting laid for the first time.

Listening to lots of music, recorded and live.

When 11 PM was when the evening started.

Hanging out at CBGBs, Max's Kansas City (and seeing Johnny & Joey Ramone in the men's room), and the Pyramid club.

Seeing the Butthole Surfers at some dive in midtown with no ventilation and no PA system.

The time my friends and I bought a joint in Washington Square Park, found out we'd been ripped off, and tried to get our dollar back (fastest I ever ran!).

Malone - do you remember all the bottle caps outside next to the Dixie Chicken? A& M wasn't my school (hook 'em horns) but we did the "road trip" thing while in high school to visit big brothers at school. One of my girlfriends drove with her FOOT for about 10 miles flying down I35. We were simply clueless.

My favorite thing about school has been looking back. I worked way too hard and put in a gazillion hours at studio. But I did manage to attend every lecture of visiting "talents" in my field. It has been incredible to go back and read my notes that record my gut reaction to each of these individuals.

I have gone on to know quite a few of them professionally and my initial opinion of them has always held fast.
