Since I cant search, I am throwing a question out there thats probably been covered many times. Whats the plans for Springfield ave? What type of improvements? I live close to union border. What about the Springfield ave in union between Millburn and VauxHall? Is Union Township going to fix their side up?

I dont know nlanzieri, but since you brought it up, whose brilliant idea was/is it to make Springfield Ave narrower?? It seems that is what is happening, and based on the amount of traffic that already exists there, WHY on earth would that be seen as a good idea.

I think the point is to reduce the traffic/force it to go elsewhere.

Elsewhere? Like valley street? I think that would be a mistake. Valley is already congested. I dont think there is a main pass through street on the other side of Valley for people to go. Is there?

I meant to say, I dont think there is another pass through street on the other side of Springfield. Is there?

Logical alternative routes are Burnett to the South and Parker, Elmwood and Tuscan to the North. Common sense would indicate an increase in traffic on these streets if SA becomes as congested as South Orange Avenue in SO Village has become since the redo.

Back to my original question. What are the proposed improvements to Springfield ave? I ve seen many topics on this, but since I cant search maybe someone knows and wants to share. What about Unions part to Vauxhall? Are they joining Maplewood on this quest to improve the avenue?

If I remember correctly, slowing traffic is a deliberate part of the design. The idea is that it will make it more of a street and less of a highway. That's the idea anyway.

Maplewood took over the portion of Springfield Avenue which runs through the town so the town would have more control over the redevelopment of that portion of the avenue. I am not aware of any plans to coordinate this effort with Vauxhall or Irvington but the concept is definitely worth exploring.
