I saw at least 3 green parrots today which seem to be living in the "wild". I saw them in the brush between the YMCA Daycare and the railroad tracks and I think they may have a nest on top of the metal (transformer?) structure on the track. They were about the size of large blue jays. Anyone else ever seen them? |

I heard something distinctly un-pigeon like behind the Y this morning. Looked hard but a train went by before I could locate the bird. But certainly not anything I hear in my own backyard. Hmmmm |

I've seen them in the big tree beside the post office. In another town not far away, there is a huge crowd of parrots. They were released when a pet store delivery truck overturned! It turns out they find this climate tolerable. |

There are parrots out there..of course we dont want to publicize this because it will become a major issue. First some will see it as a health threat, with someone posting a link about parrots carrying whatever parrot-borne diseases exist. Then some will fight for the preservation of the parrots, saying the parrots were here first and its our suburban sprawl that is invading their natural habitat. The county may send out a questionnaire asking what youd like to have done about the growing parrot herds (they call them herds..right?). TC members will be bashed, mostly by anonymous posters with names like "parrotman" and "polly's_friend" for their handling of the parrot issue. Some people will go so far as to consider those on the opposite side of the parrot issue to be arch-enemies and villains, calling them things like "imbeciles", all anonymously once again. And youre not crazy, algebra. |

Algebra2, you're probably not crazy -- not about this at least; I remember reading about colonies of urban parrots in Brooklyn, maybe in The New Yorker? Perhaps these links will help shed a little light on the subject . . . http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/04/0407_030407_parakeets.html http://urbanneighbors.nypl.org/occasional.html |

Check this out. I think they might be Monk Parakeets. Con Edison has had problems with them nesting on overhead transformers for years. They are known to be extremely determined when defending their nests. Every once in a while, they cross phases with their wings and "POOF" - KFC birdie! http://www.birdsofna.org/excerpts/monk.html |
