Saturday afternoon at 3:30 on the first nice spring weekend. Kids are playing nicely outside and have even taken off their shoes. Neighbor one has been chainsawing for 2 hours, neighbor two has a service with two backpack blowers going. My son, just around the corner of the house is crying (nothing major, fortunately) and I can't hear him. This kind of noise is why we need an enforceable (or enforced) sound ordinance, since it appears that in this libertarian suburb, anyone can do anything they want without regard for how the neighbors feel. Any thoughts that could inform me as to what to do or how to feel? |

Maplewood has been working on an ordinance to this effect (motivated by a group of residents). I haven't kept up with the coverage, but I will see what I can learn. |

Check out the "Leaf Blower Ordinance..." thread in the Soapbox. If you can get past the petty bickering and read the substance, it's an intersting approach. Though it does seem to make enforcement difficult. |

What about a 5db ordinance for vehicles? 10 pm and someone is driving down the street with "boom, boom, boom" coming out of their open windows. Or how about the modified mufflers that do NOTHING but make more noise. I realize that I don't live in Montana however a little consideration would be nice. Guess that does not apply in the 2000's. |
