I just left a presciption at Rite Aid on South Orange Avenue and they said to come back in two hours. This seems like a long wait, especially because they did not appear to be particularly busy. Can anybody suggest a pharmacy around here with better turn-around-time? Thanks. |

Drug Fair in the Millburn Mall on Vauxhall is pretty good. They also deliver for free at 3:00 pm every day. |

ANYWHERE but the Rite Aid on SO Ave. I've turned to CVS on Valley Road in West Orange. Ten or fifteen minutes wait, and you've got your prescription. There is something seriously wrong with that Rite Aid in the Village. Believe me, I tried for years to use them because, after all, they are a "local" business. But the same sort of "come back in two hours" and then coming back and being told they're either out of the drug, or it's still not ready, or better yet, it's lost in space. I gave up. Best of luck to you. |

I have had great luck at the Pathmark pharmacy, if you can deal with the crowd. Rite Aide is not only terrible for time, they have messed up my perscriptions twice, and forgot to refill several of my perscriptions after several calls. |

We use Carolina Drug and Surgical on Valley/Millburn Ave - they are usually very good. I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for a new prescription and if it's for a sick child they'll always help you first.

Topf's on SA is great. They are a small pharmacy & take almost all plans. We've switched to them & have never been disappointed. It's ironic that others like Drug Fair. We stopped using them because of the long wait, rude pharmacist (the blonde chick) & wrong verbal instructions given for taking meds by the high school kid pharma tech.

Pharmacy service has always been a mystery to me. Why is it that I can I get a deli sandwich in 30 seconds but it takes forever to scoot some pills into a jar? Also, -How is it that I can get through Pathmark with fifty items faster than it takes to get out of Blockbuster with a single tape? (I realize that this is probably for the Soapbox but there you have it). |

Steel- I've always wondered why it takes two hours to stick a bottle of Flonase in a bag at the rx counter. They're not counting anything! I disagree on the Pathmark thing, tho. I'm the one with the negative check-out counter karma. I'm always behind the person who needs a price check, wants to write a check & then changes their mind & starts digging for the exact change down to the penny! |

We've generally had good luck with the pathmark. Just drop off, shop, and its usually ready when you are done. I've also used the Walgreens on Irvington Ave a couple of times. They are open 24 hours and have a drive-thru pharmacy. Once was good, second time was a bit of a wait when the RX was called in and should have been ready, but no more than 10 mins. |

George Carlin had a great line about this, talking about drugstores... And the pharmacist is always stoned...why do you think they can never fill a prescription right away? "Better come back in about an hour, man, I can't even read the bastard now...." |

If you want to pay full price for your scrip you can probably get it immediately. However, if you want your insurance company to cover the cost the pharmacy must enter the info into their computer, send it to the insurer and have it approved. Sometimes this can take a while. The two hours at Rite Aid has always been ridiculous, we keep all our scrips with Walgreens as it is open 24 hours (Irvington Avenue and Morris Avenue in Union). This is great for those midnight emergencies when a scrip needs to be refilled. |

I despise both the Rite-Aids in SO and Maplewood. In both, I have had scripts messed up; once, they filled an antibiotic script for my child with a controlled anti-depressant for an adult. Good thing I could read, cuz the pharmacist certainly didn't. I've switched to Drug Fair, where I've never waited more than ten minutes, and the staff is actually pleasant. (In Rite-Aid, I've always wanted to ask how I have offended the clerks. It's a mystery to me.) |

I have my prescriptions filled at the CVS in Millburn -- they take anywhere between 15 minutes to half an hour. You have the option of leaving your prescription, then coming back for it so you don't waste your time waiting. |

We also use CVS in Millburn. I like that I can call in my refills so that there's no waiting at all on those! Growing up, I remember that our family doctor would always call in the precription so that it would be ready by the time my mom drove over to pick it up. Never really thought about how nice that was of them! |

Just ask. A lot of doctors still do that. |

Dr. Cotler no longer calls in prescriptions because it ended up being more of a hassle than a convenience. Often, he would call it in, the patient would arrive at the pharmacy asking to pick it up, and the pharmacy would claim that they never received the call-in. |

Shoshannah- That problem might have to do with where you go. The Spouse is constantly forgetting to get new prescriptions for allergies/asthma. Her doctor regularly calls in to Topfs & we've never had a problem. It could also be that many doctors call in all the scripts at one time in the day, so that you get to the drug store before the call was placed. I've also had Topfs call the doctor while I waited if I arrived ahead of time. |
