Thinking of doing a refi and best quote so far is ecity, which seems to be the same company as royal. Interested in any prior experiences. Thanks. |

please be careful with any of the internet-based companies, especially when it comes to mortgage rate quotes, running your credit, etc. Many times your information is shared, your credit report is pulled numerous times (whereby lowering your scores) and companies are sometimes a "front" for another company. Also, rates advertised are not always the actual rates. Also, what other fees are involved? You can't just look at the rate to see what's the best deal, you need to look at the whole picture. My advice is to consult a local mortgage banker and mention the rates you've seen online. We happend to love Joe Farella at American United Mortgage in Mountainside (908) 233-5353. He was very professional, offered us a great rate, and his staff is top-notch. I think many others here have used him as well. Good luck! |

eCity Loans charges exhorbitant rates. We used Carteret Mortgage (www.carteretmortgage.com). Got a good rate, no points, and no unreasonable fees. |

You should call for a quote from Steve Gussen at Fairmont Funding (973)275-5430. He's local in Maplewood. I contacted him for a quote on my refi and he was very competitive on rates and very helpful in explaining the intricacies of the refinancing process. |

What charges from Ecity were exhorbitant. They claim to have no fees, which I know is probably not true. |

I thought I would report back on this since we have now closed. There were, in fact, no fees from ecity/royal, unlike many of the mortgage brokers recommended on MOL. (E.g. American United offered me .25 higher with several hundred in fees.) The rate was very good (5.5 for 30 years, though they have gone down even more since, sigh). And the process was simple as can be. The mailed me stuff, I mailed it back or faxed it. The person who handled the paperwork aspect, as opposed to the person I first spoke to, was not the friendliest, but who cares. It was totally painless and with a low rate and no fees, I'm very satisfied. |
