Every year I have carpenter bees all over the outside of my house. They make holes in the wood that leaves sawdust marks from their digging. I call an exterminator but he only fills the holes with chemicals and then the bees just find another spot to dig. Are there any real solutions? |

Yes, Check out google. You will find that a good paint job, a heavy coat of paint will retard the problem. Then spray WD-40 in the area and up any holes, then fill them. They hate the stuff. But the paint will solve it. |

A good paint job will definitely deter them but not prevent them. Paint all unpainted surfaces now. Carpenter bee nests/boring holes should be treated with a residual type insecticide. Home Debit sells both spray and powder types. Wait until fall/late summer to plug up/caulk all nest openings. Plugging earlier than they have been killed, will force them to bore in another direction, causing more damage and reducing their contact time with the insecticide. While WD-40 may also deter them, I do not recommend WD-40, since it is flammable and may prevent paint applied afterwards from bonding to the wood. |

What about carpenter bees boring into an unpainted deck (with no plans to paint it)? |
