As long as the asbestos is intact, you should just leave it alone.

Even if the asbestos is beginning to flake or crack,it may be safer to encapulate it than to try removing it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for companies/contractors that can do the encapsulation?

I think that the homeowner is the only one who can encapsulate asbestos, contractors have to remove and properly dispose of it.

Contractors can encapsulate or enclose ACM if it is intact, but if you are paying big bucks you might as well remove it and never have to deal with it again. Also documentation of abatement is important when selling your house.

If it is in good condition and you do not expect to disturb it, you could leave it there. It is a great insulator and the cost of replacement insulation is around $1/linear foot.

From an old thread - TGR Corp. for Asbestos 9733051780 ask for John.
