Can the Mets be any worse than they are? Casey Stengel said it best some 40 years ago . . . "Can't anybody here play this game? Look at him. He can't hit, he can't run and he can't throw. That's why they gave him to us." Mo Vaughan should retire. He is, simply put, an embarrassment to the sport. Yesterday’s losses were two of the most embarrassing in Mets’ history. Eight errors in a double-header! Unbelievable! "We have to play better defense," Mets manager Art Howe said. Gee? You think, Art? The Mets have committed 28 errors in 25 games. They have more errors than they have home runs (Just 19 home runs). There are simply no bright spots on this team. Zero. If the NL East was a stronger division, the Mets could be buried by May 1. All this with the second highest payroll in baseball. Steve Phillips must go at the end of the season and he will not have Bobby Valentine to sacrifice this time around. Fred Wilpon should bring in Brian Sabean after the season and let him clean house. There, I feel better ... |

Chris, I'm down with you on this one. I am a life long fan. I've been going to games for 33 years. I was at yesterday's game and couldn't believe that Vaughan dropped that ball. It is apparent that both the Vaughan and Cedeno deals were collosal blunders. I'll leave Burnitz out of the equation for now, though he was absolutely rancid last year. Phillips has gambled big and lost BIG!! We couldn't do any worse with Tony Clark at first and Timo in center. I'm sure that's what Howe is mumbling to himself right now.

Chris, I'm not blaming any of this on Art Howe, but back when the Mets fired Bobby V., here's what I wrote then about what I enjoyed about the Mets under Valentine. I still miss those teams... |

At least its not a Mets tattoo, although they surely have been getting tattooed aplenty (cant resist..sorry...OK, not really sorry, but still couldnt resist). Maybe other current Mets will soon join Rickey Henderson on the Newark Bears roster. |

Players OK World Series' Home-Field Plan By JOSH DUBOW AP Sports Writer NEW YORK (AP) -- Baseball players agreed to a two-year experiment Thursday to give home-field advantage in the World Series to the league that wins the All-Star game. Does this mean that if the NL wins, Shea will get home advantage? NCJ aka LL |

I saw Ricky tonight at the Newark Bears opener. Ricky made the first put out of the Bears' new season, drew a couple of walks and hit one to the warning track. Ricky came up with the Bears down two in the 7th with the bases loaded ... Drew a walk, but, I tell you, it was damn exciting. I thought for sure he'd go yard. I realized just how good Ricky was when I was trying to explain to my 8-year old who she was watching. Maybe he's just hanging on (Hell, wouldn't we all?!), but I wish Ricky nothing but the best. The trivia question tonight was "What year did Ricky break the stolen base record?" ... It was 1991! 12 years ago. Again, I really wish Ricky nothing but the best. For that matter, I hope Bears do well (Better?) this year. Nice enough ballpark and easy to get to. Go Bears!
