Congratulations to all the candidates for a relatively civil debate last night. I think the dialog was constructive and the questions posed by the audience were meaningful. However, 2 moments that stuck out as troubling for me were: 1) Bill Calabrese suggesting that South Orange is planning to buy some of the Reservation to add to our inventory of Open Space. Can someone please share the news with Bill that the reservation is already open space? Perhaps we should buy the Brooklyn Bridge, too! 2) Bill Calabrese getting defensive when someone suggested that going before the Trustees is typically difficult for residents because the Trustees often look at their watches or roll their eyes. I suggest Bill get a videotape of one of the meetings (this past Monday as an example) and see for himself how painful many Trustees make it for residents who question them. Perhaps Mary can print out the comments for him in the other thread from nj.com to see what someone else said about that meeting. Does anyone knwo if there will be any additional debates or when last night's debate will be re-broadcast on cable for everyone to see? |

Any chance a transcript could be created (I'd be happy to have it done if there's an audio or video tape). Even a synopsis would be helpful. Some of us don't have cablevision and weren't able to make it to the debate. |

It will be televised again, so if you know anyone who has cablevision, maybe they can tape it for you. I would gladly do it, but I have Direct TV. I will try and see if we can get a copy of the tape for the library.
Trustee election is on May 13th. www.leadershipwithvision.org Vote Line A

Mark - I also have a Dish, but I was reluctant to get it and lose coverage of local meetings on cable. So, I kept basic basic cable (which is simply the local networks and public access channels) for local channels & I have the dish for "cable" channels. The cable connects to the dish, so it is possible to get both. Since I would need to pay for local channels with the Dish anyway, might as well pay virtually the same thing to cable & get the local access channels, too. (this is not at all meant to be a "dig" at Mark...just sharing some information) |

Direct TV has a package deal that gives you the local channels for free, so I just did not feel like spending the etra money for cablevision. I do know some people have kept cablevision on one TV and have the dish for the others. Trustee election is on May 13th. www.leadershipwithvision.org Vote Line A

Mayhew - I have DirecTV as well. Local NYC channels (well, 2,4,5,7,9,11,13,25) are only about $5 with DTV. How much is basic cable? I thought it was much more, but I haven't checked it out recently. Who knows... with the new digital cable, maybe I'll switch back. I hate losing signal in a storm. |

Woodstock, I think Cablevision calls it "Antenna service", or something like that. It provides the local NYC channels (2,4,5,7,9,11,13), plus News 12 NJ, Channel 26 (19?) and a few other public access channels. It was about $5 a month, but recently went up to around $6 plus all the usual taxes. It's also real easy to split yourself to run to other TVs with no additional charge, since you don't need a cable box for those channels.

BTW - for anyone who missed the debate & wants another opportunity to hear what the candidates are about, they will be interviewed on Seton Hall Radio (89.5 FM) Saturday morning (tomorrow). Line B - Open South Orange will be on at 7:30am (yes...that is correct AM). Those "other" candidates will be on at 7am. |
