In case we have a boy we are researching mohels. We just discovered the family mohel can not perform a bris in NJ. Any suggestions for a mohel? We would love a female MD, but are open to other suggestions.
Thanks

I don't know of a female MD mohel around here. Rabbi Mark Cooper of Oheb Shalom in South Orange seems to be the big kahuna in these parts (snipped my son and both my nephews). He does a nice explanation with it and accepts input from the parents if you want to add something. Call him at the synagogue.

Rabbi Mark Cooper can be reached at www.mohel.net
or you can call him at (800)499-BRIS. He is great.

Rabbi Cooper did our son's bris too. The three female MDs present were awestruck at how quick he was. They said they had never seen an MD do it that fast (it certainly seemed like something you'd want over quick, though I can't recall mine). If you do want an MD I think its the OBs, not the pediatricians, who usually do them in the hospital.

My midwife, Loni something (its been a long time), of the Birth Center in Englewood, is a mohel. She did a wonderful job with my son. She was quick, let me use EMLA cream, and I liked that she was a nurse, not just a trained lay-person.

Also try Rabbi Gerald Chinomas - 973-334-6044 or visit www.rabbichirnomas.com
He performed my son's, nephews and many friends.

Another thumbs up for Rabbi Cooper. He just did my twin sons' brises in January. Everyone (including our boys) thought he did a terrific job.
