Does anyone have suggestions for drop-in day care in the area? I'm looking for a backup in case my babysitter falls ill and can't make it to work, or a place to take my son for couple of hours when running errands, etc. He is 20 months.

Thanks

I'm sorry to say it is near impossible to find this Holy Grail of child care. All you can hope for is great friends, neighbors or extended family members.

Christ Church in Short Hills has a drop-in day care run by a woman named Peggy Fern. My son went there starting at 15 months. It worked very well for us. You pay an annual fee (I believe it was $30, but this was a while ago) and then pay an hourly fee (about $6 or $7 per hour, I believe). You can sign up for regular hours or as needed. The only catch is that they are not open in the summer.

FYI, it is now $8 an hour at Christ Church, and they have a three-hour minimum.

Thank you, I'm definitely going to check into them!
