Today's mailing from the incumbent slate includes a listing of where each of South Orange's 13 districts vote. Unfortunately, the list dates back to 1999, and some of the locations have changed since then.

For example, district 12 now votes at the Fr. Vincent Monella Center of Italian Culture on Fairview Avenue, not at Marshall School. Registered voters should have received sample ballots by now. Each ballot has current information on your correct polling location.

If you have misplaced or not received your sample ballot, you can call the village clerk's office for the current polling location for your district.

Brian - not being an SO resident, I don't get to see this "list" but is South Mtn School (not the Annex) still listed? Every year, we seem to get people showing up to vote ("I always vote here", is the usual comment"), even though the polling place was changed several years ago during construction and never changed back.

Also many people who are supposed to vote at SOMS (and it says that right on the sample ballot, which they often have in hand!), show up at SMTN instead. I feel bad seeing the older population struggling to find parking at SMTN to exercise their civic duty only to discover they are at the wrong location. During elecion days, I've met several people in the parking lot (as I'm entering school in the AM) asking me where they can park to vote, (or if already parked, which door they should use). I gently remind them that SouthMtn has not been a voting place for several years, and they need to go to the correct location as stated on their ballot.

Please note , this is my observation, not an official statement by the school, its administration, or the district.

South Mountain School is not listed, but the "Newstead School" is. As most of us know, there is no Newstead School, only the South Mountain Annex. Why they can't get the name of the school correct year after year (and yes, I have called to correct this) remains a mystery!

Also, the polls are open from 6 a.m., not 7 a.m. as listed on the mailing.

I've always voted at the Fr. Vincent Monella Center on Fairview, but both that mailing (and the OSO website) call it something different--Old Knights of Columbus Hall, I think, which isn't very helpful to those of us who've only lived here for a few years. At least the OSO site has a map, so I could figure it out.

I've lived here long enough to remember it as the KOC :-) Heck, I remember Gruning's.

I'm curious why the map on OSO's web site cuts off my street. I guess they don't want my vote!

(for those that don't understand, I'm kidding...)
