Noticed in the box score that Jesse Orosco got a save for San Diego against the Mets tonight. How old is this guy??? Didn't he once pitch against Babe Ruth? I want to know his secret to staying young! Bottle it! Let Ron Popeil hawk it on late night TV! |

There was an article about Jesse in one of the papers last week. I forget his exact age, but he is the oldest player in any of the four major professional sports leagues. Fifteen years ago my recollection is that he was one of the top relief pitchers in baseball. Now a days he is pretty much reduced to being a one trick pony. Left handed batters still can't hit him and bat something like .165 against him. He is often brought in to pitch to one batter. I believe he has pitched in the majors over four decades, which is mind boggling.

Len Berman said last night that Jesse's 47 years old. The Mets could use him now. |

Maybe that's just what they need -- Darryl Strawberry and a big enough supply of marching powder for the whole team. Might just wake their sorry @$$es up.... |
