We figured that the best advertisers are customers... Any recommendations, horror stories to share? |

We have an ADT system. No complaints. We've set off maybe 3 or 4 false alarms and they called right away every time to check on us. ADT, Slomins, Brinks, according to the police they're all about the same. |

We have Slomin's. We had a bunch of false alarms due to what turned out to be a bad contact on one of the doors. They always called the police pretty fast. (And they fixed the problem once we figure out what it was). A basic system is free but you have to sign a five year contract. |

For 4 years I had a Sentry system, much like the Slomin and ADT system. Worked pretty well but expensive. Now that the contract is over and I own the system, I am switching to Metro Alarm (a local company) to maintain my system and provide the monitor services. I've checked them out and I feel good about the team. Check out the MOL sponsors to find the Metro contact info or Private line Swato. |

When we bought our house (December 95) it had a system in it serviced by American Central Security in Maplewood. I called the guy (I think the name was Ed Hamburger) and left a message that I needed to get the codes changed and that I wanted to evaluate the whole system. In spite of repeated messages he didn't get back to me for about 3 weeks. In the meantime I tried to change to a different company, but since only Ed Hamburger had the master code to the system only he could reprogram it. When he finally called back I told him that he was obviously untrustworthy and there was no way I would do business with him. He demanded some money - I think it was $65 - to set the system back to factory default so that someone else could reprogram it. He also refused to give me the master code for my system, leading me to believe that he uses the same one on all his customers' systems. In the end I hired someone else and paid them to put in a new panel, so I didn't need his code anyway. I hired Aarmco in Livingston (973-992-8882) and I've been very happy with them. It's a small company and the central monitoring is hired out through someone else, but it's been OK. We've only ever had one unexplained false alarm and we suspect that was from an old motion sensor we have since replaced. |

Lseltzer, I can understand why a security company would not give out its programming code; it’s like a pin number to your ATM account. What I could not understand is why they would not come out and service your system. We try to get out to our clients within 24 hours of a service request. As to the service fee, we charge $65.00 and that includes the trip charge and the first hour. That’s fair compared to other trades. |

Swato, Wouldn't it be a good idea to use different master codes at different sites? What if your code were compromised? |

I use a few different codes for different systems but not more than that. If you use more codes than that you may lock yourself out . There are different ways to get by them but I will not get into that. For some systems if you do not have a programming code the panel is useless and the factory will not help you with that it is in fact a "true" lock out. If anyone has any questions I will be glad to answer them for you. Bye.... Info / Most false alarms are due to user error upon entering or exiting. Also watch out for those helium balloons when they being to lose air and start moving about the protected area they can cause your motion detector to set off the alarm.
