I'm trying to get a handle on what's going on with service contracts, price of oil, capping the price, and locking in the price. I just spoke with one company (whose service contract went up $55 to $200) about this. They refuse to lock in at any price because it's all baloney. They said the contract the other oil companies offer for locked-in prices goes out the window when the price spikes. He said that the fine print on their contracts states, "the contract can be modified or cancelled at any time without notification." He also said that their company had picked up several customers last year because of this. Has anyone had the experience of being promised a cap or lock-in price and then being charged a higher price? Is anyone happy or unhappy with their oil company? |

We've had a price cap with Petro for about 2 years now, and haven't had a problem -- the cap is the cap - they can't charge you more than that (otherwise no one would bother with it). Our cap was at $1.19 per gallon for two years. This coming year, it's going up to $1.49 per gallon, but that's the cap. No complaints - we've had them here for a few issues with our furnace too, and they've fixed things without cost as part of our contract. The only time we had to pay was when a replacement part was needed. I can't remember off hand how much the service contract was for, but it's worth it. (our furnace was installed in 1965, so it's bound to have a few problems here and there...)I don't remember now what that service contract cost. Good Luck. |
