Kind of curious what the story is with the manufactured housing in the parking lot next to the fire station.. I thought they were supposed to be there while the asbetos work was being done on the fire station, but isn't that done?

I believe that work is still being done inside the station. There has been enough done on the ground floor to allow parking the trucks inside, but the living quarters upstairs are unfinished. |

I've heard that the village is again considering selling the fire station to developers now that the renovations are nearing completion. Any truth to this, or is it just (I hope) a false rumor? |

Bets: I have not heard that rumor nor am I aware of any discussions that have occurred. I would find it hard to believe that the elected officials would even entertain such a suggestion after spending the time and money to do the renovations. The initial delay in moving forward with the renovations was to make the decision to renovate the firehouse or to relocate the fire force. A decision was made to renovate and the arcthitects began drawing plans over a year before the asbestos was discovered. |

I find it easy to believe they would spend the time and money to do the renovations but then still consider selling it. And it wouldn't even necessarily be illogical to do so, though certain people in this town would certainly foam at the mouth about it. That is, at least if they wanted to make the building in any way shape or form attractive to a buyer. If you were thinking of selling your house wouldn't you consider getting a paint job, new roof, or perhaps eradicating a nasty and rather public asbestos problem before putting it on the market? Also, while the firehouse is indeed quaint, is it really the best use for prime village real estate? Conversely, is it a good facility from which to run a modern firefighting operation? Good Lord you could put another Starbucks in there!

Financially it does not make sense to sell the firehouse because the village would need property near the downtown to build a new one. The estimated cost of a new firehouse is at least $4,000,000 (based on cost projections that we got last year). Unless someone is going to offer the village enough money to build a new one and purchase the property, it won't be considered. David L is correct about why the modular trailer units are still there and will be for another year. It only took about a month or so to remove the asbestos.
